How about this name for our baby?

We are looking at names - don't know the sex of the child, so we have two names.

First, for a boy we like Gabriel Martin - but (by coincidence) it is the son of the guy in the movie "The Patriot". Do you think we could get away with it even though it has that coincidence? Do you think anyone would notice? What do you think?

Second, for a girl, we like Eleanor Ruth, but our last name begins with "L". Do you think we'll have a problem with her initials being E.R.L. or would it be okay?

Thanks so much for any thoughts on these names!

I don't think anyone would notice your child having the same name as the movie character--I love that movie, and I didn't notice. And I don't see the problem with the initials ERL. I think you have chosen a couple of lovely names.

I don't think anybody would notice the coincidence between the Patriot and your child... I didn't even know the name of the character in that movie ...and I don't think anyone else will be bothered by it.

For the girls names, I don't particularly like the names... they're really old-fashioned. You could call her Elly or Ellie though for short...that would be pretty.

As for her initials, I wouldn't worry about it...there's nothing wrong with E.R.L.

    Hope this helps.

I like both names, very cute! I think if you would have picked William Wallace people would have noticed but the Patriot wasnt that popular of a movie. Mel Gibsons Voilence fetish was a little em-bare-assing by that point. I say GO FOR IT!!!

Great choice in names. No one would notice. Plus, your son would have a cute little trivia fact about his name. Is E.R.L something bad? I don't see any problem with those initials.

If you chose those names, people who thought they were clever by figuring it out would point them out for the rest of your child's life. If they still sound as nice, you could try switching the order of the names, then you still get the names you like, and could call the kid by their middle name if they wanted to, but they wouldn't get the negative connotations.

No one will even notice that little coincidence! It's a good name! Go for it!

  • I really like both!

They are interesting withough being to much...

I wouldn't worry about the coincidence or the initials!

    Congratulations :)

Trust me, Eleanor Ruth will hate her name. It's too mature.

    they're nice names

The Patriot is so long ago, will anyone remember the names of most of the characters? and what's wrong with "ERL"? It's not like it's Bernadette Ursula M.... or Clive Unwin M.... after all, is it?

I'd avoid the name Gabriel unless you feel comfortable with pushing the full name all of his early life. People will want to call him "Gabe" and that's such a gross sounding name.
