What dog breeds are usually restricted by Homeowners Association?
We haven't moved in yet so we don't get the paperwork until escrow. So I just wanted to get an idea of other people's HOA's. We want a doberman. California. Its a condo complex. Not apt condo conversion. Thanks!

I'd ask your real estate agent to look into this. If they drag their feet, see if you can track one down through a title company or even ask a neighbor if you can see theirs.
If an HOA bans dogs, it often starts with
Pit Bulls and all breeds commonly recognized as Pit Bulls, and any of their mixes.
From there, stricter HOA's will say
Any dog breed that is commonly labeled an Agressive dog, or any mix thereof. This includes, but is not limited to, German Shepherds; Doberman Pinschers; All Mastiffs; Boxers; Belgian Breeds; All Pit Bull breeds; American Bulldogs. . .
You get the idea.

This is why condos are a PITA. Move out of California and you'll probably find a very decent actual house for the same price as as condo in California.

Dobermans are usually hard dogs to let building owners allow, because they have such a negative image, being a guard dog. My brother is having that problem with moving with his Dobi. But really, it just depends on the building.

With stricter HOA's, they usually go by the top most notoriously "dangerous" dogs, which includes pits, dobes, boxers and mastiff breeds, rotts, gsd's, chows, dalmatians and a few others I can't recall.

It really just depends on teh HOA.. some only restric pits.. some may restrict any "aggressive" breed such as dobes, rotts, german shepherds, etc. and some have size limitations.

Doberman are on almost every list of restricted dogs. It is sad because they are such wonderful companions...besides doberman, APBT, Amstaff, GSD, Rottweiler, Akita, Chow-chow...etc...any breed with a bad reputation.

Lets see.
Dobermans
Rottweilers
Pitt bulls
German shepherds
Akita's
and a few other I can't remember
