I want a hysterectomy...am I not allowed?!?
My periods are so painful and very heavy and stop me from leaving the house. I've been to my GP several times before and they've prescribed me several different meds which were ment to decrease the pain and make my periods lighter. However, they've not worked.
I'm 16 and told my mother that I want a total hysterectomy. However, she said that the doctors wont perform that on me because of my age and because I may want children in the future. However, I don't want kids - I just want to get rid of my reproductive organs because they are causing me such greif! How would I convince a doctor to perform this surgery on me?

Sadly you will not find a doctor who will agree to doing a hysterectomy at your age. You may need to find out WHY your periods are so painful and heavy. It could be endometriosis, and a quick surgery to clean out the uterus may be all that is needed for a while. You might have thyroid issues. Hypothyroidism is easily missed by doctors who say that heavy periods are just one of the things we women have to deal with.
You NEED you uterus as it produces hormones for your body (yes it is true!) Try getting your doctor to get you to see a gynacologist to rule out the endometriosis and get thyroid levels done, TSH, Free T3, and Free T4.

Honey, I know you won't want to hear this, but the only way you would ever be able to get a hysterectomy at 16 is if you had cancer or something. However, I do know how you feel. I'm 23 and for over a year now I have been bleeding heavily almost constantly and had severe pelvic pain all the time. I have been to 2 different OB/GYN, been on 6 different types of birth control, and had many procedures done. The docs still have not found an answer. In the past couple of months, I have also been thinking about eventually having a hysterectomy. However, since I'm only 23 my doc said that he wouldn't do one yet. I'm not going to preach to you about birth control pills because I know from personal experience that they don't always work. I don't think there is any way you could convice your doc to do a hysterectomy at 16. Maybe you should try seeing an OB/GYN instead of just your GP. An OB/GYN might have more of an idea of what's going on with your periods. You might also want to ask for an ultrasound to see if your doc can find anything. You may have something like fibroids or endometriosis, both of which can make your periods unbearable. I hope you find a solution soon. I will be praying that both you and I find a solution to all of this. Good luck!!

Jesus Christ, a bit extreme...
Do you know that if you go on the pill it slows down your periods and makes them a lot lighter. Why don't you try that alternative rather than something so... big.
Do you know that when you have a hysterectomy you don't only give up the ability to have children, but your oestrogen levels go down which can make you feel less womanly. This can cause depression.
It's a really serious thing you've said, and even though you think you don't want kids, you might change your mind. You don't know what will happen in the future do you.
Stop worrying your mum like that, the last thing she wants to hear is you saying you want this dangerous opperation. I doubt you have tried all the meds.

I know you don't want to hear this but you can't get a hysterectomy at 16! You should definently consider going on the pill first. You say you don't want children but you're only 16. What if you change your mind. you may seriously end up regreting your decision casue you're too young to make it at the moment. What if your future partner really wants children?
If that doesn't faze you then try waiting it out a few years and see if you change your mind.

i'm sixteen and now can luckily date =) while i became youthful, in all probability around 7 or 8, I requested my mom while i became allowed as much as now. She suggested 18, I cried and suggested "i will in no way get married then" She laughed all of it off. i think of it became around age 12 that I requested the comparable question by using fact my chum who became 14 became relationship a sixteen 12 months previous. My mom suggested i might desire to circulate out on dates at sixteen. I requested why and he or she suggested in view which you cant stress till your sixteen so that's no longer a date if his mothers and dads are employing. My mom did no longer enable me date older very lots. For my kin i've got consistently been allowed to have a boyfriend (which secure rather the call, "play dates", video clips in a goup.) relationship to my kin is going out on a date. getting picked up, ingesting dinner someplace, and going to a action picture. you recognize. I now have self belief what my mom did became surprising. i became 14 going out with a sixteen or 17 12 months previous ( i forgot his age haha) i know now if my mom allowed us to circulate out on a date he might attempt to get in my pants by using fact we've been unsupervised. (stupid qb's) i'm happy she saved me from being presured.

When I was your age, my periods were horrible.
I highly doubt you have tried ALL types of medication. What types exactly have you tried?
You should try getting on the pill (there are many different brands, so you should be patient and see if they will work on you).
