Why are teachers primarily Democratic and does it influence our children too much?

People around college student age have a high majority in favor of Obama. All the other age groups are more evenly divided. I hear a lot of my peers talking about "change" without any foundational knowledge, as if the word enough ensures a positive future for America.

Update:

Oh, and this isn't wrong - I have a lot of family and friends in the larger area of the teaching community. They are in both swing and strong republican states and still their peers are most often democratic. I don't get this from kids, I get this from those teachers peers. Most teachers are democratic.

I think it's just amazing that people under 20 are at least caring about politics, for once...that is an accomplishment in itself...

Because they love what they do and don't just teach because of the money. Each student matters to them. I grew up in an affluent town that supported education as most affluent towns do. Our teachers were paid well and taught us well. Go to a poor city and see how those schools are. See what they produce. It's important for teachers to be respected and to be given the tools they need. Republicans are hypocrites. You preach so many different things but that's all you do, just blow hot air. What have you done for education? What have the Republicans done for education? All they have done is undermine it.

edit: You can't stand for someone to have a different point of view. Up until very recently, I was a Republican. I was taught how to think for myself. Critical thinking. It's something that democrats and good teachers strongly believe in. I guess you don't because you only want teachers to teach what you believe. You don't see the problem with that I'm sure. That's brainwashing. Controlling, unhealthy behavior. Kids are smart and they can make up their own minds.

edit: If it's too much of an influence then someone isn't doing their job as a parent. It's your job to teach too even if you don't get paid.

edit: You think people are stupid? I know what change means. I know teachers know what change means. Look at what the Republicans are saying. It's exactly what real democrats say that regulation is needed. Republicans hate regulations as does business hate regulations. We taxpayers are bailing out these huge corporations while the CEOs walk away with multi-million dollar bonuses. They can sink a company and still be filthy rich. They can go to another company and do it again.

Teachers and social workers etc are generally democratic cuz the democratic party is usually the ones responsible for their raises etc. Republicans usually cut taxpayer dollars to federally funded programs such as welfare etc. Obama is also younger & a smooth talker & that generally appeals to the younger generations

Its probably primarily due to the fact that Dems for the most part fight for teachers pay raises. If you had the choice of getting a raise or not would you vote against it?

The teachers unions usually contribute to Dems campaigns and causes. Dems are pro-union, and teachers are a union.

Wrong. College Republicans are a well-funded (by corporate donations) and have been a political force indoctrinating our youth for some 25+ years. In fact, Jack Ambranoff gained his power and influence realigned the College Republican front into a very big, and well-organized business that self finances and infects every college campus

Started in the 60s when wimpy college officials let the children get away with murder instead of kicking them out of school as they should have. All those college agitators took to the education field & Sought to configure the system to further their own political agenda instead of actually teachings kids how to read.

Hitler preached change and he was extremely popular among unions and teachers. We all know how that worked out.

What we have is indoctrination in lieu of education. When you have a person who you know will lower standards and promises to give you more money for less effort be afraid, be very afraid.

They were indoctrinated at the University to start with, then they joined Unions. Yes, it is extremely harmful to our children. That is why my daughter does not go to a regular public school. Thank goodness for Republicans and school choice.

Sure. They're overwhelmingly Democrat and left-wingers. Why do you think we have the lowest test scores in the industrialized world? Keep the students ignorant and they will rely upon the government for everything.

I've seen/heard teachers spout their political beliefs and it's not appropriate!

I have a son briefly choose to be a vegetarian because of a teacher. She didn't explain how you had to change your diet to get enough nutrients but she told kids that they shouldn't eat meat. It's irresponsible!
