it depends how big is your koi and how big is your red tail koi always sucking things if your red tail is so small and your koi is big it could be suck in its mouth. I have guppies along with kois all been sucked up in the kois mouth. However some do manage to go along in harmony koi with swortail.

Koi will eat anything that can fit into their mouth. He was probably just glubbing along and "gulp!" You shouldn't have been housing those two fish together anyways. Red tail sharks are tropical and koi are in the goldfish family and require colder water than a rts.

Koi will generally eat anything that fits in their mouth.
You know all the answers that say not to keep Koi with smaller tropical fish?
Now you know why....

Koi are somewhat selective but are opportunistic omnivores and, in general, will eat anything they can fit in their mouth, whether plant or animal.

If your Koi are outdoor, you do not feed them during the winter. Feeding them will only cause them to get sick. They are in a state of hibernation. The food will not be digested correctly and they can die.

Fish eats fish. As long as they will fit in their mouths they are fish food.
Although there is also the possibility of the redtail shark jumping out of the tank.
