Can someone help them all get along?
My brother's family and I just relocated to the same house in a different town than we were previously living. He owns a rottweiler and a chihuahua mix. I have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and a Cat. The cat is kept separate, so the big part is getting 3 male dogs to all get along. Namely the rottie and wheatie.
My brother is an Army sergeant who has spent a lot of time overseas which left his wife to care for the kids and animals. So, the rottie has has had little to no socialization.
My wheatie is the opposite. He has been socialized a lot and gets along great with the tiny dog. He tries to approach the rottie, but the rottie isn't okay with that. My wheatie is a terrier, so when faced with a fight he doesnt back down. This has caused a bunch of shuffling of dogs when going out to the yard or going on walks.
I am living with my brother because of medical reasons and will never rehome my dog, who is a pointed show dog. He will also not be neutered. My brother's dog is a neutered rottie who went through obedience classes at a time in the past. Any advice on how to work with these guys is much appreciated.
I will reiterate. . . My wheatie will not be neutered. He is a registered and pointed show dog that has not finished his career. If that is your suggestion, don't waste your time.
Again, I will add. My wheatie is a show dog that has not finished his career yet. Is that hard to understand? He is not a champion yet. He has, at the very least 2 more shows to go.

It is possible for these 2 males to get along, but I question why you would never neuter your Terrier? Do you plan on breeding him soon? If you don't have any plans to show/ breed your dog I'd say neuter him. The Rottie, isn't the cause of the 2 dogs not getting along. Your dog is giving off scents that are driving the Rottie mad. I have a lot adjacent to my Town home, and the dogs in the neighborhood come to this lot. It's part of our complex so we (the dog owners who live there) oversee the dogs that come and visit. One gent has a male dog that has not been neutered and causes the other male dogs (I have 2) to go nuts. I actually asked the gent to stop bringing his dog to the lot until after his dog is neutered. He didn't like that but, hey we are protecting our dogs.
I'd venture to guess that the dogs did not meet at a neutral spot, everyone just kind of moved in together and trouble started from the get go. Your only recourse at this time is to walk these two dogs together drain all the energy out of them, and if you say that's not possible, then I would say, the human is also part of the problem. My dogs (1 is 3 and the other is 10) met at a neutral site and have been best buds ever since. In order to get your dogs to start thinking like a "pack" you must be able to walk them like a pack. If you conquer the walk with your dogs, then you should no longer have problems.

You need to neuter the wheaten terrier. It will never get along with the Rottie if you don't.

Start NILIF training with all the dogs.
