my dog's food and mice?

i have a poobee (poodle/beagle 20lbs 2 years old), he over the last day has started to look a bit sick. he did throw up yesterday, but has had no diareah or thrown up since. he just looks kinda blah i guess is the best description.

what im wondering is that i did see a mouse run away from his food bowl.

is it possible that he may have gotten sick from the mouse, that we havent noticed over the last few days?

i know it sounds dumb but do dogs even get sick from mice?

there is no vet in this town or for about 60 miles. so i cant just go there, or else i would. i basically needs some info and opinion.

thanks

Go get the unflavored pedialyte keep it on hand at all times, add it to the drinking water today. Try 25% to 75%water .Make sure your dog has had all of the shots (corona & parvo) 4 series as a pup not just three (learned that the hard way,pup survived-checkbook did not) 1 every year there after,do not ever skip this. Buy a metal container for your pet food a trash can with a foot pedal for the lid is ideal.. Worm your dog every 6 months If your dog will not eat go the 60 miles now.

You should get some plastic take-along containers. This is what I do, my dogs eat out of them. You feed your dogs, and if they don't eat it in 20 minutes, pick it up. You can re-lid it if they haven't eaten much and try later. But that way you don't have the dog food attracting mice. The best way is rat poison, but you have a dog, so that could be dangerous for him. Maybe you can get a cat?

Yes, there are problems your dog can get from mice. If the dog isn't feeling better in a day or two or if his symptoms get significantly worse, you'll have to drive that 60 miles, both ways, and take your dog to the vet.

do you keep your mutt's food in a mouse-proof container?

do you wash your dogs food dish daily?

Do you pick up any kibble left on the floor after meals?

if the anwer to ANY of these is no, then it is possible. Mice are filthy, they are flea ridden disease bags with legs.

maybe you should ask your vet what's wrong with your dog....

yes they can, mice carry a lot of disease in their droppings. If the mouse pooped in his bowl and your dog ate it, you can be looking at a number of parasite infestations. Roundworm comes to the top of my mind, but there are many more.

Bring your dog to the vet and catch everything early, it will save you a headache and lots of money too.

why are mice getting into your dogs food? stop leaving it out!

if your dog is sick, you need to find a vet!
