Do you think smell can be breed specific?
My brother's young rottie smells just like a childhood rottie I had growing up. They don't eat the same food or the same shampoo. Any ideas?

Yes, the oils in a dog's coat give off distinct odors. Most hounds, especially Beagles and Bassets, have a VERY distinct smell that hound owners either love or tolerate, and most non-hound owners find a little "doggy" smelling. Cocker Spaniels also have a very distinct odor. Some breeds, like Papillons, are known for having very little odor. So it's not at all surprising that your recognize the Rottie smell on your brother's dog.
