Stacey Jones. Would you select him for the Kiwi's.?

Stacey coming back from a WHOLE YEAR OFF professional league and to still carve it, man he will show up alot of number 7's this year. Would he still be in your Kiwi's Team if he became available and at who's expense Benji or Fien (if they were the current top 2 7's available for the Kiwi's this season)? Remembering that Stacey has not been in the NRL for 3 odd years and what he done at Manly, he can only get better.

Update:

Knights 09 - I agree with what you are saying but one thought always comes to mind when I watch Stacey play, you know that brilliance will happen. What he did against Manly with those aging legs took guts and big Kahunas, agreed that there was lots of hype, but i think the fact is no one else in the Warriors Team would've done what he did, How many chip and regathers has Fien done in the last year? or Joel Moon? or even Hohaia. I think you would be counting on 1 hand for the whole lot of them together. Great players create great moments!! Agreed he is well above the playing age of these youngsters but it doesn't make him any worse than them. I really want to see him Fully fit against JT

Update 2:

The Barmy Army - No I want to see a fully fit Stacey Jones play JT, by no means was he anywhere near his true potential and fitness level on Sunday ans scarey what he can do. i think you over rate JT or under rate Stacey because I've never seen Stacey been carved, even when they played Newcastle (mind you I think Joey broke his jaw that day). It will be good entertainment, but the differnece between JT & Stacey is Jones can play on the backfoot also, JT definetly can't.

Update 3:

Yes for sure I've always backed Stacey's talent on the field they don't call him the Little General for nothing.I just think he needs to work on his fitness more as he hasn't played a full game of league for 18 months

    He is an amazing player.

He single handedly gave the Warriors victory. That try by Brent Tate was really good. That last try buy Jerome Ropati was also really good. Pinpoint accuracy.

You want to see him play a fully fit JT?

nah, no chance, JT would carve him up!. Seriously, Warriors play the Cowboys in round 10 at Mt. Smart Stadium. Do not need to wait long for the match up.

Jones in the NZ team is a must, he brings alot of experience into the game, and he is a work a holic in defence, as soon as he came on the Warriors came alive! He is just a brilliant player no doubt about it, and he definately showed Orford up today!

Benji and him would certainly take some stopping, I think Fien could almost be played at hooker, he has great ball skills, and i think he often played Hooker for the Cowboys i believe

I'd pick him. Start with Fien at 7 then move Fien to hooker when Issac Luke needs a rest and bring him on. to do this I'd also make sure you had a Back rower that could play in the backline to cover any 3/4 line injuries probably someone like Mannering or Setamata Sa (spelling?)

It depends on whether he makes himself available for the Kiwis. I don't think he will because he'll be focussed on the Warriors but if he did make himself available any selector which does not pick him would have rocks in their head. Even just having him in the squad his mere presence will inspire the youngsters, and Stacey is very forthcoming in giving advice to the younger players who have not been there done that. He'll be a trainer in future for sure.

Man he played good but I think you're a little bias lol Three years ago I could have said he was one of the top halfbacks, but from what I saw last night his not that impressive. His chip & chase was great, and he put a kick up to set the try up,other than that he didnt do much really, his defense wasnt that good either. He definitlely needs to replace Benji, that guy is useless, and afterall it is Stacey Jones, I just didnt think he did as good as the hype.

love Stacey, awesome player through and through. However i don't think he would make himself available for the pure fact that the NZ team has already moulded together...

Stacey isn't about stepping on toes to get to the next bets thing, he's been there done that, and I think he believes that someone who is just as good or better than him deserves that chance to wear the number 7 jersey for NZ.

Benji is still young (provided injury doesn't hit him) he'll still wear our number 7.

    I reckon why not!

He proved today that he still has his touch setting up tries all over the park. I think if Jones finds good form this year he is still good enough to be the Kiwi number 7 with Benji at 5/8

I don't think that the should. Don't get me

wrong, I like Stacy Jones, but they won

the world cup without him and I'm sure

that they could do it with the current halves

    they have.

On the other hand if they were to lose the

good halves they have now then I see no

problem in selecting him for the team.

Well that would have to be up to Stacey to make himself available before we could ever think of selecting him. Even if we did what is wrong with the halfs combination we had in the world cup?? We won did we not???? So it is up to him and up to Steve to selected him.
