More evidence in the Johns case, your thoughts?

Now we have a Tania Boyd stand forward and say that this mysterious young lady from NZ was actually braggin about events that took place with the NRL boys the next day to colleagues. All of your ladies who rubbished John's names and guys, what's your thoughts now? A few things to consider;

- How credible is the victims story or recollection of events now?

- Why would Tania Boyd make these allegations with nothing to gain?

- She the case be reopened and all people put on the lie detector?

- Why name and shame these guys if it is found to be untrue (via the lie detector), if its not illegal and then where's the wrong (only if discovered that it was all made up from previous steps)?

- If she was hard done by, then does she seek (if already hasn't) compensation from the NRL or the Sharks even?

Update:

Cheers Red - I fully agree with you.

Update 2:

kyia - I hope you are now not suggesting the police didn't do there job properly. I beat in any case where you need help they would be the first you call on.

Update 3:

chilliho - I hear you mate and could be true. I agree that a DVD would've been easier too and you wouldn't have to talk to a DVD also. Nice!

She's just a tart trying to cash in on it all now. I thought it was bullshit from the beginning. I was disgusted to hear Matty got sacked, shouldn't they stand behind their man, not ditch him the first chance they get, so much for loyalty.

If she really disliked the situation, then why did she wait 7 years to say something!

I really feel for Trish Johns, having to go through this all over again.

    - I don't think her story has any credibility, if you were really upset you would go to the police, not a tv show.

    - I think Tania has compassion and doesn't want to see lies hurting others, good on her.

    - I think there should be a time frame by which any cases like this are automatically closed. She should be told, bad luck, you had 7 years where you were fine with it, bragged about it and enjoyed it. Can't change your mind now.

    - I think if they are going to talk about, I personally think it should be kept off the media and dealt with privately, then yes all people involved should be named. Why should Matty Johns take all the heat.

    - Don't give that tramp a cent, she is already receiving money from the NZ government because she has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, hahahahahahahahahaha what a load of BS

Everyone seems pretty confused here as to why Matthew Johns has been sacked:

He has not been sacked because what he did was illegal - that remains to be seen.

He was sacked as they deemed it morally reprehensible that he took part in the first place. As a tv front man he is a role model.

If they caught him *%@#ing squid in the privacy of his own home he would be sacked - not because its illegal to *#$@ dead fish - but because nobody wants that to be their kids role model and the sponsors don't really like that sort of thing.

If you want to be paid the big bucks and be the tv star then these days you must live with good moral code - don't cry about it when you have been exposed! If the others are no longer role models then they should not have to say a thing without a proper police investigation!

A few extra points... as an ex-police officer:

Many - if not most, rape or sexual assults that are not reported in the first 24 hours (and most are not!)are lacking in evidence to proceed . Doesn't mean it was not a crime - it means we can't actually prove a thing! In this case there are 6 or 12 vs 1.......where some was consensual - some maybe not so much....its not happening unless one was to turn on their team!

Matthew is obliged to say it was all consensual. If there was any variance even just to imply at some stage she was confused there would now (most likely) be a rape case involving every single person who entered the room on that night. And with one statement like that (to get the ball rolling)- up to 12 players/managers in the can! If it was non-consensual in ANY WAY even a non-participant- who walked away , didn't help her, witheld infomation from the police during their investigation in 2002 could have charges laid against them.

I do not know the finer points of the statute of limitations on matters settled out of court...but as far as I am aware they only apply to bringing charges. If the sharks paid her in 2002 then I do not think she would EVER be allowed to speak about it again (they might be aussies but their lawyers are quite savvy!)

But again - Matthew Johns was not fired for doing anything illegal he was fired as he is no longer deemed responsible enough to be a role model.

  • I saw this article last night. I've also heard that the NZ Police are not going to re-open the case. Which indicates that their investigations at the time were thorough. Maybe they should release some of the minor details so that all the speculation would cease.

The facts of the case are:

    1. "Clare" returned to a hotel room with 2 men she didn't know on the pretext of having sex.

    2. Sexual activity ensued.

    3. An allegation was made to police at the time

    4. No charges were laid, and there was no case to answer.

    5. Everyone gets on with their lives.

    6. 7 years go by and "Clare" tells her story to the media.

    7. Matthew Johns is accused.

    8. Matthew Johns loses his job, his name is dragged throught he proverbial mud.

    9. Tania Boyd tells media "Clare" bragged to her and several others about bedding several players. (perhaps Boyd's statement back in 2002 was part of the reason that it was deemed no case).

    10. ___ Watch this space ___

    Edit:

I also agree with Diet Fist on the analysis of Tania Boyd...I was thinking the same way, although she did claim that "Clare" bragged to others, not just her...

    Edit2:

Is everyone, including the media consciously ignoring the fact that a criminal investigation has already been done and closed?

I guess this question isn't really aimed at me, considering I've never really supported Clare's position, but I'll throw my two cents in.

    - I don't believe she was very credible to begin with. But her credibility in light of this "evidence" is affected precisely by how much weight you give Tania Boyd's testimony.

    - It could be argued that Tania Boyd might have be paid for her comment, which is much the same criticism leveled at Clare. It could also be argued that Tania stood to gain a brief moment of publicity. It could also be argued that Tania was predisposed to not liking Clare and her testimony is revenge.

    - The case should never have got this far to begin with. It was dealt with back into 2002 until Four Corners did a hatchet job on Johns in order to give itself ratings. Whilst a lie detector test would be a classic tabloid media stunt and the most obvious step in this farcical trial by media, realistically the only people to gain from a lie detector test is the media.

    - This is the issue. Can something that is not illegal be considered wrong in our post modern society, where morality is subjective, poorly defined and even more poorly applied?

    - The statute of limitations on many a confidentiality agreement is seven years. Many suspect she's been paid already.

Ultimately, the media has failed to address the main issue of objective legality versus subjective morality. This is the main problem: if it isn't illegal to have group sex, why is Johns being punished? If Johns deserves to be punished, why doesn't the law reflect morality?

certain areas of our privacy are being invaded. FOr example some people dont know that Vonage is a government made and monitored phone company and if you have Vonage(I do) your phone is ALWAYS tapped. I do agree with monitoring certain triggerwords or phrases that people look up on the internet search engines for instance: how to make a bomb, free child porn. Just depends on the situation. oh and by the way I dont think Karr did it. I think he wants attention. You can tell by his disposition, how he walks, talks, and what he says. I think that he thinks he did it but really didnt. The goverment didnt start monitoring his emails unti he started emailg Patsy Ramsey about details about the murder and she alerted the authorities.

I actually backed him and thought it was decent of him to own up to it. I really didn't appreciate her bragging about it one day and then calling rape the next! I mean seriously this just makes things harder for a genuine rape victims to come forward..

We all have our opinions and what have you, and mine is this "there has been no other league player that has openly admitted that they have been apart of situations such as this". Johns did.

And yes I do think the other players involved should come forward and not let him take the fall on his own! Their acts now are cowardly!

    Geese Louise!!!

Learn to read between the lines.

What we have here is a classic case of the work place "grapevine" also known as a rumour mill. I think the woman who spoke out this morning used the words..."We were all laughing about it!"

I doubt a 19 year old is going to go into work like this woman claimed and brag about having a football team go through her. She may have told someone in confidence about what had happened and was then judged by the rumour mill.

After 7 years would you really remember whether it was the woman who told you she was a hoe or someone else who heard from someone else who heard from someone else...

They should definately NAME AND SHAME. Phil Gould last night said something like...The night went bad as soon as that door opened and the other players entered the room. He would know what happened as I'm sure he is in confidence. He indicated also that it was a threesome and that Johns was guilty of infidelity. I took that as Johns was in the room originally.

There is a BIG difference between choosing to have a threesome and having most of a football team decide they might all go through you.

At the moment some footballers see consent as a grey area however they need to learn it is a fine line. It is not alright for the average guy to climb through a bathroom window or even to walk into a room while his mate is having sex and then to line up and help himself.

Seriously they should have just done what an average guy would have had to do...Got a DVD and jacked off to that.

What makes you think Tania Boyd had nothing to gain with making the allegations.

What new evidence have the police got to open the case with.

I am not even sure it was conducted correct the first time. They investigated it AFTER the team had come back to Australia, and had plenty of time to get their stories straight.

Beside it was one stupid girls word against a team of celebrity footy players. Not enough evidence.... does not mean innocent.

She is not the first girl to end up at the end of a footy pack attack and she wont be the last.
