switching to toddler bed?

How old were your kids when you switched or plan to? How did it go? Did they cry more than just being put in bed or did they adapt easily? Did it take long for them to adapt? Did they fall out of bed?

18 mos and no choice - caught him perched half in and half out of the crib. Yes, he fell out of toddler bed, so we bought a huge pillow shaped like a dog and placed it beside the bed.

I moved my 20 month old daughter from her crib to a twin size bed with safety rails a couple of weeks ago. I laid with her until she fell asleep the first couple of nights, and now we put her to bed without a problem. We have worked with the transition by telling her that she is a "big girl" and "babies" sleep in cribs. We also let her pick out her own bedding so that she knew what was going on. She loves that she has a bed that is similar to Mommy and Daddy's. The fact that Tinkerbell is all over her bed helps a lot too. She has not fallen out of the bed . *knocks on wood*

I switched my son before 18 months I think. There was a recall on his crib and I decided not to get a new one, but get a toddler bed instead.

He LOVED his big boy bed. We bought Cars bedding because it was his favorite at the time. He slept in it ALL the time, didn't cry to get in bed with mommy and daddy.

I think he liked the idea that he wasn't trapped in the crib. Of course this is not the same for every child. He slept with us a lot before we got the toddler bed, but after we got it he stayed in his bed!

add: my son did choose out his bedding. it helps kids feel like they are part of the decision.

its funny we even tried to switch the bedding just to see what he would do... he went back to get the Cars!

my cousin(girl) went in her toddler bed when she could walk. It didn't take barely any time at all for her to adapt. She didn't fall out of bed because it had handle bars on the side and not many kids fall out of bed now but yes she adapted easily because we called her a big girl! and she loved it.

    Cute kid by the way!

Check out http://www.babytoddlerandpreschool.galaxyofstores.... for online stores that have all sorts of baby products. You should be able to find toddler beds there. These stores often show information about the products they sell, and usually have a chat line, or a phone number to call, where you can ask questions if you need additional information.

We tried a few days ago (14 months) but she got out of her bed each time we left the room and screamed at the door to let her out. But then again it depends on the baby. My daughter is so active, even in her crib she walks around and tries to climb out. We might wait until she's 18 months, or even 2 years old.

i put my first daughter in a toddler bed at about 18 months of age. it was kind of hard to get her to stay there at first..but she loved it. i kind of had to though...or else we would have had two cribs. it worked out really well though. her sister was born 10 months after her. *yikes* lol
