Coaching Junior Rugby League tips?

A friend is looking at coaching around the 14 yr old group in Rugby League. No real experience at coaching but his pure love for the game make him want to try. How do you think he should try to plan a 14 week season? e.g week 1 - 5 skills training 5 - 8 set plays. Who know's someone might be able to suggest a good website for him to read over.

Check out these sites for rules, skills and drills.

He needs to get a level 1 coaching certificate eventually.

u14's will be a bit tough to train at first I hope he is patient.

Definitely look at the drills and skills but the main thing is that he teaches one thing a session that has no more than 3 new skills.

AND don't forget to have a game at the end.

If you just go to a junior RLFC site like this one you'll find heaps of tips and links. i hope it goes well:)

He can't legally coach without coaching qualifications.

Get him to talk to his coach at rugby about courses, most rugby clubs will pay for teenagers to go onto the courses if they'll coach at their club.

Ask him to help with the planning of lessons as well.

As a rugby coach myself, tell him he can email me, and I can send over some of my lesson plans.

There are lots of websites out there that can help him.

The way I always set out my training sessions (mine are an hour), 5 mins warm up, 25 mins training drills, 25 mins games and mini games, 5 mins cool down. That way the skills they have gained during the training drills can be put straight into practise in the games and mini games at the end of the session.

best website for coaching drills, has everything and player video's like johns, burt mateo and hindmarsh showing drills which they use and you can use, its called:

    www.fast4football.com

its the best, you just have to sign up, but it literally takes about 45 seconds, it's free and you dont have to confirm registration through a confirmation email, once you sign up, just go down to training videos and rugby league then click on what you want, good luck and enjoy
