How do I switch Windows 7 versions on two computers?

I get Windows 7 Ultimate for free from work, and I bought a laptop with Windows 7 home premium. I was wondering if there was a legal way for me to get home premium on my desktop computer, because I want the ultimate version to be on my laptop.

I realize this question has been answered a lot, but I'm looking for a answer specific to my question. Thank you.

Use the Serial Code from laptop on your PC, its normal a sticker somwhere on your laptop. Use the the Vista Ultimate CD to activate it. (a serial number has 3 installs)

Then use the ultimate serial on your laptop that also should have 3 installs.

I'd really recommend having both computer as ultimate because it has a ll the features.

On a practical level, it's going to at least partly depend on what kind of recovery discs you were provided with the laptop. Some get tied to the manufacturer's products at the minimum, some don't. And the OEM versions tend to come tied to a particular computer, meaning you can't transfer them to another computer like the normal retail versions. They're stuck on that on which they were initially installed. If that's what you have on the laptop, no there's not a "legal" or practical way to install that Home Premium elsewhere.

If you have "normal" Home Premium discs, you'd indeed be able to switch the two. At the worst you'd have to contact MS for phone activation.

I suppose you can play trial and error if you want to back everything up and look into installing Home Premium on your desktop first. If you need more in-depth assistance you should probably try finding a tech-specific forum somewhere.

install it off the same disc. the serial key should have a minimum of 5 installs(its probably unlimited though).

I no I bought the single user of mac snow leopard and it doesn't use a key, so I put it on both off my computers. win 7 should be the same the keys are to prevent piracy.

Do you guys really think windows 7 is as good as the hype? Or is it truly just another vista flop?
