Rifled shotgun? What's the cheapest one I can get?
I'm a rifle guy, so shotguns really are new to me. I just want to find the cheapest shotgun that's fully rifled (for slug shooting only obviously). I want to be able to mount a low-power scope, so I can hopefully shoot reasonably accurately at up to 200 yards or so- or 300 if I'm really lucky. I'm not going to hunt- just want one for fun. I'd also prefer if it was semi-automatic, or magazine- fed, if at all possible...... What's the best option? I've heard that people can shoot at 300 with 4" grouping- Is any regular rifled shotgun with sabot slugs really that accurate?

Good luck with that. Competitive slug shooters compete at the 150 yard range.
I like Bob Ross by the way, your avatar pic.

I rifle hunted my whole life until three years ago when I moved to Iowa. I bought a Mossberg slug gun, and it kicked like a mule and wasn't all that accurate. I moved up to a Remington Wingmaster and have been shooting 5 inch groups of 5 with iron sights at 75 yards. The price tag was worth it. You also have to mount a scope that will take the pounding of 12 gauge recoil. I can also tell you to buy the slugs, not the sabot rounds, unless you plan on forking over a LOT of money. I've dropped several deer with open sights between 75-100 yards. Now if they were on a full out run that far away, I don't think I'd even pull the trigger.

Cheap and 200 yards are not mutually acceptable. You can have one or the other but not both. If you want a semi-auto box magazine shotgun then get a Saiga-12 but it is a smooth bore and the barrel is not removeable as it is soldered on and rifled barrels are not available; Maximum range with rifled slugs: 3 inch groups at 125 yards (if you are really good). Now, if you want long range accuracy in a bolt action 3-round box magazine, get the Savage 220 Shotgun in 20ga. Using Remington AccuTips and a steady aim, I know from experience you can grab 2-in groups at 200 yards, BUT it is $450 and up.

If anyone tells me that they can shoot a 4" group at 300 yards with a rifled shotgun I will pull out a $20 and tell them to put up or shut up.
2" at 100 yards is good. 1-1/2 is great.
The Hornaday SST sabot slug has the highest velocity I know of at 2000 fps
The Rossi rifled slug gun has a MSRP of $225. You should be able to get one for less than $200

I thought around 60 yards was the effective reasonable range for hunting with slugs.
I would recommend a Mossberg 500 (or 590) with a rifled barrel

One thing is important no matter what shotgun you go with make sure that the scope you buy will handle the recoil. Make sure the scope is made for shotguns otherwise it will not last very long. I have found a website that sells optics that seem to offer a nice variety. It is www.hjsoptics.com

Get a Saiga 12 and use rifled slugs if you want to use slugs. You will be happy! Its a no brainer.
