About this arab? making her feel better?
Ok - so this is reallly complicated.
The short version - I've been looking after these peoples horse and while they've been away she has become lame after an accident in canter. She was still lame after a while, I talked to the owners and they didn't seem to care and refused to give her vet care. There are going to be alot of dumb comments about this but thats not part of the question. I did everything I could. Anyway, they then said to have her slaughtered - I knew this was wrong, she wasn't badly injured enough to be put down and anyway I am strongly against horse slaughter. They said she had 3 weeks to get better, so I said I'd do everything I could. Anyway I made her fit out of the saddle and her leg got a little stronger but she was still lame. After loads of begging they agreed to let her live. Anyway all of the above isn't the important part.
I know she isn't my horse and all... but yeah I feel really guilty that I ever put her through all that pain - cause lets face it, if it was anyones fault, it was mine, I was on her back when she tripped. So I want to do somethings with her that she'll enjoy, I hate leaving her in as field or in a stable by herself. She's got to the stage when she doesn't limp without a saddle on her. What can I do to cheer her up a bit? (this is a really dumb question, no hater answers PLEASE)
I know the difference between putting an animal down and slaughter...
She doesn't need a vet anymore. I have had one come look at her, they weren't allowed to prescribe her anything though. They did say she'd be better and that time and love will be the best medicine..
I spend looooaaads of time with her. Yesterday I tought her how to trust her riders(i wasnt riding her) because she never did. We did things like she'd walk next to me and halt when ii stopped stuff like that.
Gallop - she is no longer ill. heres how the injury happened.
This horse had been underschooled and while I was cantering her, she was doing reaaallly well, then she put one foot wrong and tripped. Everyone trips, when we're walking we trip. But for a horse with more legs, going faster, with weight on their back, you can imagine a trip would be more serious. I'm trying to be the good person here, jussayin.
As soon as I know she's got owners who love her and she's healthy, I'll leave her alone, I'm not thinking about riding her at all which is exactly why I'm asking this question. What things can I do with her, off her back, to make her feel better.
There is no way on Earth this horse needs to die, she is healthy so long as she doesnt have a saddle on her back, and in a couple of months, she'll be back to normal.
ABOUT THE TRIP - I stayed on her back, it wasn't a fall trip, it was more of a stumble, she got her balance back after about 4 seconds and tried to carry on cantering. obviously i bought her back. she was fine in straight lines but tight corners weren't great. Say it's my fault if you must, I feel incredibly guilty, all I want to do is help this horse.
Let's get this right - I want to call a vet, I would pay for all the costs to get her better. I want to make her better. It's the owners who won't let her have treatment. I am doing everything I can to make them listen, I don't know why they're like this... In the mean time, there is still an unhappy horse that I want to cheer up. Only one of the answers in this question said something fun I could do with her.

What you can do is GET A VET!!!
This is exactly why people who dont know eff all about horses shouldnt keep them.
Btw, there is a HUGE difference between putting an animal down and sending it to slaughter. Putting it down is humane. Slaughter is the most unkind a horse could go through before it dies. Google it. Get informed.

Hiya,
I know she's not your horse there for not your responsibility but if you were the one to make her lame you should pay from half of the costs to stop her from being in pain. Plus you should never ride a lame horse! By riding her you will just make the injury much worse. Call the vet out to help her as she will be in pain. What she needs is a good few days-weeks of stable rest and maybe some pain killers from the vet. I know you said you don't want to just leave her in her stable but it's for her health. Being lame might also come down to the diet she has. And once a horse is lame it's pron to be lame again so I would suggest to by special feed especially for lame horses.
But as for your question - To make her happy horse's love company and food :P Spend time with her grooming and even going out for small walk along the road and back. Horse toys are good fun if she has to be in stable rest for a few days. I would get a treat ball as its fun to watch the horse play football in the stable and learn that food comes out of it. Also food, horse's eat all sort of things Apples, Carrots, Pears, Potato peelings, Banana's, Turnips, Bread and lots more so a few treats always seem to go along way in making a quick bond.
Well hope this helps and good luck in her recovery

please don't ride her until she is 100% not lame in anyway shape or form.
You do need to get a vet to look her over and to advise you on the best course of action to take. Accidents happen all the time, from what you have said it doesn't seem like it was your fault that she tripped so don't blame yourself.
You may find if she is sound unridden and then the lameness shows up with tack/rider on that she might need her back checking as it is common for horses to throw their back or pelvis out when they have tripped or fallen.
The only way to cheer a horse up is to keep them painfree and fed, that is it, so do her a favor and get her the attention she needs. Good luck and I hope she is better soon x

Dang what MEAN people.
Anyway lol. To cheer her up just spend time with her horses love when you spend time with them and they don't have another horsie buddy if ya know what I mean. Just go out there and spend a hour or even 15 minutes at a time with her. Horses long to have a heard mate and if she can't have another horse buddy she needs a human. So by you just going out there just to pet her and talk to her will make her feel better. Take a couple of treats out there when you go to see her. Like sugar cubs or an apple. Take her out and groom her. Just over all spend time with her and talk with her as long as you can be for you have to leave or whatever.
I wish you all the luck and I hope she gets better. Good luck!!=P
ADD- I do think if you can you do need to get a vet out there. Like maybe talk to them and offer to pay half the vet bill or something. Or you could get the vet to come out and see about paying him in monthly payments till you get it paid off I don't know lol but you do need to get the vet out there. Its not an, OMG! Get the vet out there know situation because as you said she doing a lot better and not limping as much. It takes time for a horses leg to heal after something happens to it. Just keep doing whatever your doing with her leg and get a vet out there. Good luck again lol:)

I can see your point!! You could have the vet out and if he is one that will do everything he can to put a big bill in your hand you could end up with a $300. bill and unless you have a lot of bucks to spend on someone elses horse you would feel screwed.
Isn't there some good ole boy in your area who is very horse knoledgeable who you could get to come and look at her and give his opinion and may give her some bute and show you how to do it.
You should just feel lucky that you weren't under her if she went clear down. If it is something that will not heal I would feel she should be put down. With a bullet and not the Vet. way. What they put into a horse to kill it is very poisonous and if the animal is burried and something digs it up and eats some it will kill them. It also will poison the ground water.
Source(s): Some folks in Colorado had a horse put down and burried on their property, their dogs dug into it and ate some and they both died. - gallopLv 71 decade ago
Well, imagine if you had a painful injury that was not treated, so you were in pain 24/7. What would cheer you up? Either pay to have a vet diagnose and treat her, or pay to have her euthanized. You admit that her injury was your fault, so why wouldn't you be the one to pay to have the injury treated? That's what you can do for her. You haven't done "everything I could" for her if you haven't gotten the treatment she needs. She won't cheer up unless her pain stops. Obviously, in the meantime, don't even think about riding her.
