Hey my names NATALIE xd haha :) ♥ Im fifteen years old and have ten horses and four ponies and a 3 week old foal. I've been riding longer than I've been walking!!

  • Is it a good idea to get her or not?

2 years ago today I made the hardest decision to give up my beautiful rescue arab to a lady who I should never have given her to. I'm not completely happy with the way she's being treated now and I'd even go as far as to say she's being neglected. I am not going to go to the police or the RSPCA, I have spoken to the lady and asked if I could buy her, the lady has agreed.

So simple enough I guess, but there are several problems with this. The first being I would have to wait until next year when I'm 18, as my parents are refusing to help (they think it's a waste of time and money buying a horse who you won't be winning competitions etc. on), and I'd have to start saving now. Secondly, I have a two large fields of my own, so summer accommodation shouldn't be a problem, however we do not have a field shelter, and I simply do not have enough money to keep her elsewhere. Also, given the state the horse is in (which is not terrible but would not be of perfect health by any means: she has one pretty bad leg which is a recurring problem that has gotten better by building her strength with lunging in the past) I worry that to be kept outdoor year round would not be good for her, even in a heavy duty winter rug and a light feed every day.

So you can have some details on her, she is an Arabian mare around 10-12 years old, she has been abused in the past. I want what's best for her, and that is to be with someone who will devote all of their time to making her better.

  • Mules? Cost of keeping, etc?

Hey guys, for two years I have half owned an EXTREMELY high maintenence arab called Jessy, who I love more than anything in the world. However, someone wants to buy her and I know he will take care of her well. Sadly, Jessy became lame a year and a half ago and recently recovered until we had a bad fall and she messed up her back. I do not properly own her (it's complicated) and basically cannot afford to buy her and pay for her vet bills, so I've done everything I can for her. I wouldn't let her go without knowing she was going to someone who will love her just as much as I do, and I will of course visit her reguarly.

Anywhoooooo, does anyone know anything about mules? After years of owning this delicate arab with matchsticks legs, I was reading about them and they are much hardier than horses. They can do pretty much anything a horse can do, but without injuring themselves as much (I know they can still, but I won't have to be as cautious as I am with Jessy - not taking her out at all on hard ground, avoiding all cross country even though it is my favourite event.) So, I was wondering...

    1. Are mules as expensive to keep per year??? (I know they cost less to buy initially, but what about keeping them? Baring in mind I live in england - hot summers, COLD winters) Could you name the annual keeping cost?

    2. Would I be able to enter my mule into horse shows? Cross country etc. In england, mules are pretty rare, so I'm not sure if I could.

    3. How long do they live??? F.Y.I, I would be looking at the larger mules, 16hh ish +. Jessy is a tiny 14.3hh and I'm 5'9, probably too big, but I've been so attatched to my pretty gal. I find it easier to ride large horses and I won't feel like I'm crushing them.

    4. Is 16hh even the right size? Like I say 5'9 about 65kg (I'm pretty athletic, if that helps. So most of my weight is muscle?)

    5. Accommodation???? I live on a farm, though we do not have any animals. I have 2 very large fields, and I have kept horses at my house before. As they are generally more hardy animals, when should I keep them out and when should I keep them in???

    6. Tack? Dumb question.. Can they use horse saddles and bridles (I ride english style, not western!)

    7. Colours? (not so much a care question.. I'm just curious. Do they only come in solid colours like bay and chestnut?? Jessy is a bay.

    8. Life span??

    9. Company? I would be buying one mule, and in one of my fields there are sheep in the summer (they're not our sheep, the farmer rents out the field). However, I could get an animal to keep with the mule like a goat? Is this good enough company?? I have friends across the road who I would hack out with.

    10. Accommadation #2. Should I let him/her have the whole field (it's pretty big -16/17 acres, with a river.) It's a pretty interesting field for a horse though, with lots of hills, trees, bushes and a river.

    11.Disadvantages of owning a mule?

    12. Advantages?

    13. Behavior?? In and out the saddle. I'm an experienced rider and can handle bucks/rears/bolting, I just wondered if they're considered tempremental???

    14. Any other info I would need to know??

Sorry guys, I know it's long, but I couldn't find much on the web. Thanks xox

  • How to say I hate homework because it takes too long?

Hi guys, I'd like to say for my french exam "I hate homework, because it takes too long." Would I have to say "je déteste les devoirs, parce que ils prainnent trop de temps", or "je déteste les devoirs parce que il prend trop de temp". I know you would normally say Je déteste FAIRE les devoirs, but I'm adding this to an end of a sentence, so it would be unnecessary. Thanks :-)

  • Christmas Show Help?! (Costumes)?

Hey horse section, I know you love these outfit questions.

Me and My Horse ( A bay arab) are going as a cupcake for the christmas show. There are two other girls doing this with me, one on a chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, the other on a very dark bay connemara. (I think its a connemara - or however you spell :') ) We're all going as different colours, I'm pink, the other two are blue and red

Anyway we need some more ideas to help us with it, so far we have:

    - Pink, red and blue ribbons to tie in the horse's tail after being plaited.

    - Smaller ribbons for each 'button braid' in our horse's mane, which will also have something pink red or blue in them

    - Different coloured numnahs

    - Different coloured too toos.

    - Spotty tops in the different colours

    - Jodpuhs (Different colours)

    - Ribbons for our own hair

    - Horse-safe glitter

    - Paper Mache 'icing' ontop of our hats in the different colours

We need more ideas to make our outfit more wowwww; please leave comments :) xx

  • Who to choose and what to do?

It's a really long story, I'll try shorten it.

My appaloosa, he tought me so much and I loved him and trusted him more than anything, but, one day he was sold and I got no chance to say goodbye. I thought I'd never find him...

Jess - When he was sold I started riding Jess a beautiful arab, everything was going well until she had a terrible fall in canter which has left her very lame. She seems to be getting better now I've had the vet and the blacksmith see her. I love her un real amounts.

Ruby - When Ruby showed up at the stables where I help out, she had long dreadlocks and shaggy fur, she hadn't been touched for years. When you went to her door she would put her ears back and run away. I was asked to ride her, and when I did, I loved every moment. Although, she clearly hadn't been broken in properly. Just when things were getting better, she was taken back by the people who'd previously owned her. Ruby had turned up with no name and was a piebald cob.

Scarlett- Scarlett came from the same place as Ruby and has the same attitude. She also wasn't groomed and had a poorly cut, hogged mane. She was also a piebald cob like Ruby and also came with no name... VERY underschooled, bucked a lot, rears ocassionally and bites often. Now though, she has come on a lot with her schooling, though I've only been riding her about 2 months.

BUT, I have finally found out where the appaloosa is..

I can go find him, which would mean giving up Jess, Ruby and Scarlett for ever. But, gaining happyness and helping the little star who helped me. I have been told he's been sold to someone who helps braindamaged people to ride, however, I have also been told by a different person that this is the same place Ruby and Scarlett came from. I also know he isn't being ridden. If I went there, I could help Ruby and appaloosa(Uggs), but, then Jessy would be sold to her old cruel owners, and Scarlett sold on to the people who want to buy her. It's all very confusing....

What's more.. If I saw Uggs, I would see him once and once only, if he's happy, all I get to do is say goodbye, if he's not, I can help him. I want to see him more than anything in the world, I've been trying to find him for 8 months and ever just to know he's safe would mean the world to me...

  • How can I find this out?

Well, I have my own horses, but am currently riding at a stable and helping out there too.

So, I owned an Appaloosa who eventually got too much work and I had to sell him to the school, who let me still keep him on loan. But, seeing as he was technically there, they could sell him at their own will, then they did. I have NO IDEA where my baby has gone and I tried asking but got no answer, now the woman who told me has left. ITS COMPLICATED.

And then, these two horses with no names appeared from apparantley the same place where my baby'd been sold too. One was extremely aggressive, a dark bay with a hogged mane and 14hh, he looked amazing I thought. Then there was the other, a 15hh piebald cob with a long mane and tail, completely untouched for what seemed like years. She had about 5 dreadlocks in her mane which we eventually cut out. Eventually, we named her Ruby and I was asked to ride her. She was a dream personallity wise but had obviously NO training what so ever. I don't know why, but her owners had asked the stables to try sell her. We found someone very interested in buying her, when at last minute they backed out, Ruby was then sold back to that place which I do not know the name of. Then, Scarlett showed up. I had bucked a jumping lesson and was told I would be trying out their new horse, a 13.3hh cob (I was HUGE on her). She was very slow and collected by herself, with only the occasional buck, she jumped slowly but surely and had a great personallity. Then, I rode her in a group lesson and EVERYTHING went wrong, she bucked all the time and snuck in the occasional rear.

I really want to know what's wrong with this place, all their horses seem to be cobs(cheapish to breed) and often piebald. I'm doing horse slaughter for an English project at school and my mum pointed out that fields full of piebald cobs which look untouched can often be for slaughter. I REALLY hope this isn't what's happened to my Appaloosa. But, how can I know for sure? When I find out, I will find him, but I cannot ask the owner of the stable, she will kick me out if I accuse her of that. PLEASE HELP.

  • To jump or not to jump?

I have a horse that is twelve years old, a 16.3hh Irish Sports Horse bay gelding. He is a beautiful ride, if lazy and bucky at times, he is desperate to learn. When he was younger, he was involved in a car accident that damaged his back legs. He has been jumping on the lunge and is great at it, his canter is perfect and he shows no sign of weakness. He can go over trotting poles with people on his back and he is a very strong horse. Would jumping him damage his legs? ♥

  • Rescue horses? (20 characters)?

This sounds really dumb of me..

I have 16 horses and I love them all equally, but, we're running out of money and I'm having to sell some. Is keeping rescue horses that are unrideable cheaper? I've been looking at a shelter and really want to help them out. I'll be selling some of my younger horses soon, but I could never say goodbye to my older ones. One of them, needs a field buddy, as the other horses cannot be used with her (long story) and I am considering rescue horses. Any advice would be great ♥

  • Cobs don't exactly get enough credit...?

I didn't think cobs were that great till I met this little missy...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1hvyO7qXlM

It says she was going to be sold to lovely people. Let me make this clear... I never owned her, and the people who were going to buy her changed their minds and she's gone back to the people who neglected her. I think it's important she gets credit. I love her to peices and miss that little freak!

Scarlett. The second horse in the video. She's an angel when by herself, I rode her in her first group lesson and she was AWFUL, verticle rearing. It's not exactly scary on a 14hh horse though, plus she has the worlds slowest gaits...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKWkL8ShUuI

I know my riding is UTTERLY awful in this video, it's quite old, and the first horse had a terrible jump. I had also a muscle erruption in my left ribcage which affected my left leg. It was some medical term like that. Anyway, it's not about me, it's about these little piebald freaks♥

  • Horse slaughter poem?

So, I'm doing an English project and I've decided to do mine on horse slaughter. For a section of it we have to write a poem at least 30 lines long.. The only opinion I've got so far is off my dad, and of course, he would say it was lovely. Even though, my intention was to make it sad. This is NOT a cry for attention, I genuinley want your advice. And just to add.. I am NOT a natural born poet, infact, it has always been my weak point. A little advise would be great....

    You loved me once,

    I loved you back,

    We went together,

    Like salt and pepper,

    But you moved on,

    And I promise I won’t forget,

The times we thought would last forever,

    How could something so beautiful,

    Go so badly wrong?

I need you now more than ever,

    If only you knew...

    If only you could see…

    I love you now,

    I loved you then,

    I will love you always,

    Until the very end,

    Keep me in your mind,

    Add me to your prayers,

    Promise me you’ll never forget,

All of the memories we shared,

The sun goes down for another horse,

    Another life,

    Another future,

    Each minute, each hour,

Another horse takes it’s last steps,

    It’s final bight of hay,

    They see a room,

    They see a man,

    They see a gun,

They hear their feet tremble on the floor,

    They hear a shot,

But then, they neither see nor hear no more.

  • About this arab? making her feel better?

Ok - so this is reallly complicated.

The short version - I've been looking after these peoples horse and while they've been away she has become lame after an accident in canter. She was still lame after a while, I talked to the owners and they didn't seem to care and refused to give her vet care. There are going to be alot of dumb comments about this but thats not part of the question. I did everything I could. Anyway, they then said to have her slaughtered - I knew this was wrong, she wasn't badly injured enough to be put down and anyway I am strongly against horse slaughter. They said she had 3 weeks to get better, so I said I'd do everything I could. Anyway I made her fit out of the saddle and her leg got a little stronger but she was still lame. After loads of begging they agreed to let her live. Anyway all of the above isn't the important part.

I know she isn't my horse and all... but yeah I feel really guilty that I ever put her through all that pain - cause lets face it, if it was anyones fault, it was mine, I was on her back when she tripped. So I want to do somethings with her that she'll enjoy, I hate leaving her in as field or in a stable by herself. She's got to the stage when she doesn't limp without a saddle on her. What can I do to cheer her up a bit? (this is a really dumb question, no hater answers PLEASE)

  • Great.. help, please?

so, i asked a question about how i could help this horse and i took all the advice and i gave her a warm mash yesterday took her for a walk by leading her, gave her a rug and a warm bath on her legs only (its cold man) and obviously she didn't improve over night but, yeah. the owners have decided they cant be arsed with jessie and are having her put down in 2 weeks. this is my fault, all my fault, is there ANYTHING i can do????????? I have to help this horse, so any suggestion would do. For those who didn't read my last post heres the short version....

Recently, since my last horse was sold, I've been riding this arabian named Jessie for this girl while her and her family are in New Zeland, I don't really know the girl, I was just asked to by her mum, who I don't know either. Anyway, shes a 6 year old arab mare, and the third time i rode her she was coming in season so you can imagine how stroppy she was. It was my first time cantering her outside and she fell, badly, she got back up, but she struggled four or five times. She fell only because she tripped her front too legs over(i don't think shes been cantered much by the girl) anyway, we checked her over once i got off and she was fine so i got back on just to calm her down, though she seemed oddly relaxed anyway. I put her in her stable and her left knee was hotter than the right, and on tight corners she limped, badly. It's got worse each week. So basically, it's been 7 weeks since then, I've done everything I can think of doing by myself.

Heres the problem... the owners don't know the first thing about horses and only have them to show off their wealth. The day this happened I sent them an email explaining everything, saying how sorry I was, that I would pay for the vet bills etc..... They said no, it's their horse and they don't want her being seen by a vet. This is wrong, I KNOW. anyway, I fought for her but it didn't work. In the end it's their horse.. Anyway, eventually they let me have her seen by a vet just to see if she was lame, the vet checked her over and I was right, it was her knee. I don't know whats the matter with it, the owners wont tell me (theyre odd people) and I wasn't there when she got checked over so now I don't know either. Anyway, she's being put down now. What can I do to stop this? This horse has been my life for the past 10 weeks and I've done everything I can to help her and now just like that shes being put down. She's six years old and the most stunning creature ever. I cannot let this happen. WHAT CAN I DO??????

This is the beauty that needs you...

  • how can I help her? I feel so guilty!?

so, I was asked to ride this horse Jess to keep her in schooling while the girl who normally rides her was in New Zeland. She's a 15.1hh Arabian (part something else - finding out what soon but thats irrelivent) the first time I rode her she hadn't been riden in 3 months and was very green. There were alot of distractions in the arena I was asked to ride her, big jumps with odd fillers and a giant reflective window (yes, she got scared of her reflection ;L) anyway she did everything beautifuly and we put out trotting poles and flew over them so beautifully

The third time I rode her we were outdoors which was different to the other times, this was the first time I really cantered her ( the first time was only 3 strides-ish) anyway, she did a lovely collected bouncy arab-like canter and then she sped up and up so I slowly bought her back and she did it beautifully again, but then she tripped and stumbled trying to get up three or four times to get up, I kept hold of the reigns the whole time but she still managed to dis-attatch them from the bit. I immediatly made her stop and we checked her over and she seemed pretty relaxed about it all, unlike me. When I put her back into her stable I checked her front knees and sure enough the left was alot hotter than the right. At first, I thought she'd be okay, I walked her round in circles outside and she was fine in both directions, but still I kept her in her stable over night. The next week I rode her again, I was told to canter and was very worried that I would hurt her again. But, her being the amazing horse that she is she did all she could, going on the right leg and collecting herself beautifully, as soon as I brought her back though, she could hardly walk. I couldn't understand it, hadn't she just been cantering?

Anyway, its been 7 weeks now and two days ago I rode her she couldn't walk properly with just a saddle on, this is after a 3 week rest. I feel SO guilty people say it's not my fault, it was just her tripping, but how can I not blame myself? How can I help her? This might sound ridiculous, but I cannot call a vet the only thing I can do for her is excersize and maybe creams, no medical help. It's not my horse and the girl that owns her won't let me. I so badly want her to get better, she's a girls pony, not mine, and she's 6 years old with so much potential. Thing is, the girls got plenty of other ponies and theres a good chance she might put Jess down, How can I stop that from happening? ♥

  • Help with horses canter?

I've got a 15hh arab mare and i've only had her a couple of months and we didn't really look at her much before we bought her.. it was my dads idea i just ride her. We've just established the trot, she used to rush off and get frightened of the person on her back, we've got her on an outline moving alot better. Yesterday I asked her for a canter and she did about 4 or 5 strides perfectly then took off in a full pelt gallop (very big arena). Luckily, she's very easy to pull up and correct so I didn't fall off. I asked her for canter again and we knew she was unsure on turns to cantered her on the long straight side of the arena, she went much better but then tripped up and stumbled four or five times before she could get back up, I didn't fall off then either. We decided to go back to trot and walk to cool her down, how can I stop this? It's not because she's got a person on her back I've seen her do it in the paddock aswell. I know her old owners did alot of lunging with her because of the same problem but that hasn't worked, the only time she canters well is when jumping when she does the beautiful arab canter they all have.
