Help!! I am planning a trip to the maldives and I don't know where to begin?
(10pts)
Should I book a vacation package or should I book my hotels individually? How much does a plane transfer cost? Thank you to anyone who can help, (again 10pts to the best answer)

Yes - book a package that includes flights, transfers, hotel & meal plan - it will work out cheaper than buying each component separately, cos the travel agents get special rates.
Limit your choice by price, and get the best you can afford - generally, the more you spend, the greater the luxury & privacy.
If you're only coming for 7 days, limit your choices to resorts close to the airport to reduce travelling times.
Look at facilities of the resorts - spa, diving, food, bars, gym, tennis, freshwater pool, etc, depending on what is important. And look at the size of the island - small is private & intimate, whereas the larger islands might have more facilities such as a golf green or bicycles for hire.
Then look at the room types - garden villa, over-water bungalow - with their own facilities (private jacuzzi bath, outdoor shower, coffee maker, tv/dvd player, etc).
Good luck with your choices. Any more questions, feel free to ask on here or send me a message.
PS - why make a big deal about the points ? We answer questions to help people out, not just to get the points !

I agree totally with the other answerer.
Make sure you do some research of your own by looking up and viewing each resort you are considering staying at.
Buy a package for certain that includes your flight, accommodation and meal plan. Many suggest going All-inclusive as food and especially drink is very very expensive in Maldives as its all imported in.
I would not stay too close to Male either.
Consider a stay of 10-14 days rather than just 7 days.
Are you considering just Maldives or a multi-stop vacation?
You could consider a few nights in Dubai and then fly to Maldives OR
you could do 7 nights in Sri lanka and 7 in Maldives.
You have several travel options.
Also the resort you stay at. Do you want plenty to do beside water activities. Do you want a spa and maybe some night entertainment.
Also consider booking a sea plane transfer to your resort as that is an amazing experience providing stunning scenery and photo opportunities.
Sea plane transfers cost approx 125 pounds return with First choice depending on the resort you are staying at.
Take a look at some holiday websites to get some prices as prices DO vary from each company. I would also choose a well known company too.

According to Lonely Planet "This is a place for a holiday of a lifetime". Indeed when you see the the sun-kissed blue ocean beaches with excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities your holiday will become unique and extraordinaire. Maldives is an archipelago of 1190 coral islands in the Indian Ocean.
I found an excellent article on things to see in Maldives . Do read it:
