I use a rubber bit on my thoroughbred and do far ive had it 3 years and it has no bite marks or anything. He grinds his teeth all the time. I like d rings better because there isn't as much movement going on in their mouth. My gelding I have a straight bit in. not because he's hard too stop but because he doesn't like a broken bit. a broken bit when you use your reins can pinch their mouth and even sometimes pinch their tongues. I found he did alot better with the straight bit. And rubber is good for a horse is extra sensitive. Like my horse he used to always try to get away from the but by tucking under and that stopped when I changed to the rubber bit. (and yes my thoroughbred is off the track and in a full cheek rubber straight bar.) Lol

Rubber bits are less harsh and are great for horses with sensitive mouths( All have sensitive mouths, though more than oters). My now snaffle mouthed gelding has a very sensitive mouth so we put him in a rubber, but in only two rides he chewed the freaking thing to pieces XD If you horse is a cewer or has an iron mouth, I would stay away from them. Some have more give and some have less, in order to further the pressure variation. Like with other bits, take the time to teach your horse to accept it and work with it

I love that people say they're great for sensitive mouths....like there are horses who's mouths are not sensitive. lol All horses have sensitive mouths.

That said...just because they're made of rubber doesn't mean you'll have less problems with your horse responding as you wish...you still need to put the time and effort into teaching the horse how to yield well to any pressure. So, they won't fix bad training, is what I mean.

Also, there are horses that chew on them a lot, so the rubber bits aren't going to last as long as a steel bit.

They are a good alternative to steel, though.

They aren't bad. A horse that chews or gnaws the bit a lot will destroy a rubber bit in no time like my pony did. Great for horses with sensitive mouths.

I use a rubber bit on my horse because he has a very soft mouth. Rubber bits are good for horses with soft or sensitive mouths. They last pretty long unless your horse chews on it!
