  • trainer questions..................................................?

my baby is going to be 4 in june.....i just started working him...i have a few training questions no rude comments only helpful ones...

    1) he will trot for me just fine, but when i ask him to run he bucks once and then runs fine...my friends says i should discipline him for bucking, but i don't think he is not doing it to out of meanness or trying to get me off, i belive he is young and he is learning to adjust to weight and things...am i right or wrong

    2) my friend says i need a tie down on him because he throws his head once in awhile, but he does it more when he is nervous, and i believe that tie downs are easy fixes to problem people don't want to fix, i believe if a horse throw there head it is for a few reason, they are being a butt, don't like the bit or it is there teeth.....so what do you think about tie downs

    3) when is the best age to start barrel racing and pole bending...i was thinking about barrels around 5 1/2 or 6 and poles 4 1/2 or 5 ...but troting and walking both now but not full out running

4)he has good ground manners and when i am on him he does listen to stop go easy

    5) this is my first horse and i baby him alot..this horse follows me wherever i go, i am not a pro trainer but i did train my arab i have, i learn as i go and watch movies and get advice.....both horses respects me i have had him for over a 1 1/2 now

    6) last question how do you help a horse not be so nervous when at a show it just take time right, for example i took him a show and he was pawing really high and wanted to be next to me friend horse, but in the arena he did what i asked him to with no problem, but with everything around him he was a butt, this will just take time bc he is young and his buddy wasnt there..right, so keep taking him and let him get the confidence right and learn to be his own horse

thanks for all the advice and help..also i am patient and i praise him and show lots of encouragement toward him and talk to him alot to try to clam him

  • round bale vs square bale?

i don't feed my horses hay all year around because they have pasture of grass almost all year. in winter i hay them starting mid oct to mid march depending on weather and when the grass starts to grow. i was always told not to feed horse round bales because it can hurt them, but i see lots of people doing it, can i use a round bale that's been stored inside without taking the chance of hurting my horses. i only have two. right now i feed them Square bales but i am needing to buy more and thought about buying a round bale and when spring and rain come and gets warming removing the left over. is it safe to do with just two horses or should i stay with square bales. i would only buy one round bal at a time. some people say it fine and horses wont eat it if bad but i had others say no bc it is bad for horses bc of mold and etc. i was thinking of putting in pallets so air can move through it to..should i stay with round or square bales

  • little advice please?

had a show today took both of my horses, and they were nuts together. short story my 3 1/2 year old who i never take(bc he is to young to do poles and barrels with) acted nuts nothing like i every seen before, he would paw with me on him and was crazy and the one i always take acted some what crazy but was fine unless the other one neigh to him. so i put the one i never take put him in the trailer, bc with so many horses and people i thought it was best bc my husband was holding him and he was pawing really high and other things, and then my other horse was back to normal. here is the funny thing of all this. i can take my 3 1/2 yr old by himself to indoor arena, trail ride and mount shoot off him with no problem and he is an angel, but today he was another horse.and my other one acted some what crazy but nothing as crazy as my 3 1/2 yr old. will they every be able to go to shows together. like i said i can ride them by there self most of the time away from home, but at home has a little problem but nothing like at the show.i know you going to say buddy sour, but i don't think it that, maybe with so many more horses and all the action. and he is a people horse loves people and love pleasing.also what is up with the pawing crap, i hit his leg but it doesn't work..no rude comments helpful help only..have anyone else had this problem
