Tips on tracking a fly ball that's gone above the lights?

Played softball for the first time last night in quite a few years. I was playing right field and I was trying to field a popup that landed in shallow right-center. The ball sailed above the lights and for a second or so I lost track of its movement because it was in the shadows. I ended up wiffing the catch because I misjudged the landing. I thought is was going to land on the lip of the infield, but it ended up in shallow right-center, and I didn't charge it enough. I never had an issue with this when I played when I was younger, but maybe because the fields I played on then were much better lit. Are there any tips that may help me better anticipate where a ball is coming down should that happen again?

you have to shield the lights with your hands.... if the ball goes above the lights its hard to see because the lights are ruining your peripheral vision
