Lucid dreaming technique and it's problems? You could help me..?

Sooo i've always had huge interest in lucid dreaming and used to do it every night as a child. I've only had about three these past few years that i can remember but they were foggy, vague and normally ended when i got excited. I'm currently writing a dream journal but i have always remembered up to three dreams a night naturally. I have been doing reality checks and trying the WILD technique. At night, during a nap etc. The closest i have gotten was when i was in bed at night and let my body fall asleep. I felt as if i was sinking away from myself and almost had it but a series of muscle jerks and outside noises ruined it. I also tried awake then back to bed but fell asleep.

Is there anyone out there who has methods that can help someone who has these issues?

    The muscle twitches may be because you are not relaxed enough, although they do occur during REM sleep as well. I used to get them all the time, but it is helpful to do the WILD technique earlier in the morning, after waking up an hour or two before you would wake up, preferably during a REM cycle. When you attempt this technique at the beginning of the night, you are more tense, and your minds natural instinct is to fall asleep as quickly as possible. It is possible to do it at the beginning, I've done it, just more difficult. If that is not possible, (waking up early in the morning) Stretching before getting to bed is very helpful, and so is the tense-release method in which you do just that to remote areas of the body individually while attempting the method.

    As for outside noises, try not to pay attention to them. They don't inhibit your body falling asleep, and may even keep your mind awake, just don't react to them.

    And don't worry about "the giant wall of text" I've learned that this topic is very lengthy, and I can never really cut down without losing key details. :)

    Try jumping into the air a few times a day when nobody is around. Do this daily. After three to four weeks, if you've been consistent, you'll have a dream where you jump into the air. But in dreams, we don't just drop back to the ground, we float back down. Then you'll know you're in a dream.
