  • Calling all dessert loving vegans!?

Since i am a vegan and love dessert, i want to know what you all think of this dessert and can you please give me ideas for some variations.

Right now in the oven i have the layers to a chocolate, almond meringue cake baking. I whipped up some vegan meringue using Orgran No egg than then folded in grated dark chocolate and coarsely ground almonds. I plan to layer it up with toasted almonds, cocoa, more chocolate and whipped coconut cream (which is a huge hit) Do you think it will be ok for a special event? and do any of you have any more ideas as to what i can do with the meringue if they don't stay in one large round?

    Thank you in advance :)

  • That compulsion to save the world?

Ok here we go. Do any of you fine people on here get completely overwhelmed by the state of our earth and it's people? Greed and selfishness has been allowed to run rampant to the point where we may not be able to ever fix the mess we have made.

Examples ; Over-fishing and trawling is destroying ecosystems that may not ever be able to recover and once they are gone it effects so many other things, deforestation is happening at an alarming rate and destroys endangered species and locals who use the forest for lively hood. Pollution, greenhouse gas emissions upsetting the natural flow of the earth. Killing of our own kind, starving children. We are intelligent beings capable of greatness and kindness yet it doesn't seem that way. I understand this has probably been said so many times before but i just had to say something (as ya do)

Does anyone else just get so upset and messed up because of all of this? I want to change it but at this point all i can seem to do is sit back with a feeling of hopelessness.

  • Vegan marshmallow experiment?

Sooo since i can't get vegan marshmallows here and i can't really afford to ship some over, i was wondering. Could i possible make vegan marshmallows with pectin as the gelling agent? I understand that i would need to use more and i would use an egg substitute that can be used to make meringues for the aeration but would it work? I have had many baking fails in this life and i just really would like advise from someone who has maybe tried with similar ingredients, note i can't get agar until monday.

    Thank you :D

p.s i haven't eaten marshmallows in nearly a year and they are my favorite :(

  • Question about Facial Osteosarcoma?

A friend of mine has told me that her 20 year old niece has osteosarcoma, it is in her cheek bone, jaw and over her nose and eye socket on the left side of her face. I know that this type of cancer is very rare and once past stage one, gets harder to treat. She only just found out and is getting a bone scraping done and sending it somewhere, due to it's rarity and us being in New Zealand.

The doctor has said her cancer is only six weeks growth, which is such a short time and i worry for her.

Can anyone who knows more tell me what her chances are of of metastasizing to her brain and spine, which is a concern and whether she will live through this?

Please don't ask me to consult her doc because i don't know her, i'm asking a for her Aunt, who is a friend of mine. It is very sad and i hope our NZ doctors can her her beat it.

  • To Atheists, just a question? I'm curious :)?

So, here it is. If you as someone who doesn't believe in the word of God (bible) and think it's all false and written by a bunch of crazies...i ask this. If it was all for nothing why would those men devote their time to writing it, spreading the message, giving up their lives to follow Jesus? They were beaten, abused, ridiculed and almost all of them were martyred. The books of the bible were often years apart, some written long after and before Jesus was born then crucified, yet, together they make the one book. These men, were poor, gave up what little they owned and received nothing but the grace of who you suppose is an imaginary God?

I totally respect you all for your choices and this is by no means put to offend or condescend. Just give me a grown up, fair answer, that's all i ask.

    Thank you :)

  • Vegans :D can any of you fantastic people answer this? go on...?

So here's the question; Does being vegan change the way our brains work? Because what i have noticed in the last seven years is that i CARE, sometimes too much. Eating animals, perceiving killing one seems so alien yet i once ate meat with no thought. I watched some of a fishing show and the comradery, thrill of the catch and skills totally skipped over my head and i felt ill. I was thinking "Don't they see that struggling for air? do they care that it's alive and belongs in the sea? how can killing something make you so happy?" I used to watch that show (hunting too) happily but now i find it so odd. Has being vegan changed the way my brain perceives animals? hunting and killing ETC?

I find it hard to express this to omnivores when they ask me because i really feel that you need to have the whole way you think and view the world changed, is this true? Thanks in advance :)

  • Lucid dreaming technique and it's problems? You could help me..?

Sooo i've always had huge interest in lucid dreaming and used to do it every night as a child. I've only had about three these past few years that i can remember but they were foggy, vague and normally ended when i got excited. I'm currently writing a dream journal but i have always remembered up to three dreams a night naturally. I have been doing reality checks and trying the WILD technique. At night, during a nap etc. The closest i have gotten was when i was in bed at night and let my body fall asleep. I felt as if i was sinking away from myself and almost had it but a series of muscle jerks and outside noises ruined it. I also tried awake then back to bed but fell asleep.

Is there anyone out there who has methods that can help someone who has these issues?

Sorry about the giant wall o text :) Peace.

  • receding gums etc please help?

So earlier this year i went to the dentist and she said i have some gum recession on my back molars on the inside edge, she said it was from brushing too hard. I asked if her if it could be from clenching my teeth at night and she said no but i'm not convinced (i have an uneven bite). Because in the time from the last visit i have gotten gum recession on all my molars and some other cutting teeth. This worries me because i brush twice a day, rinse and floss. My gums are thin but this could have something to do with my thin skin in general. My gums look healthy and i'm gentle when i brush (soft tooth brush as well) And lately i have been getting more plaque around my gum line which i never used to get.

I've also been getting pain, in my glands under the jaw, when i drink or produce lots of saliva, my ears hurt and so do my jaws. Please help me, i'm so worried :(

  • A friend of mine is ill?

Suddenly he got very sick. For about three weeks he suffered bad fevers that put him in hospital, he is a very fit guy and it wasn't like him to be that weak, so there was no chance of exaggeration. He is still waking up drenched in sweat from night sweats and is tired and worn out. He was told it was the flu but this is unlike any flu i have ever heard of. I think he should get blood tests to be sure. Any ideas as to what could cause random severe fevers and exhaustion?

  • Bone pain, no idea what it is?

Hi. Recently I've started getting a dull throbbing pain in the bones in my wrists, arms, thumbs and sometimes elbow. Low bone density is in my mothers side of the family and often happens younger but she said that's because of having so many kids (I'm only 20). It is worse at night but never enough for me to take pain killers but it is slowly getting more painful. I did become a vegan a few months ago and i do try very hard to get the right nutrition, however it can be hard. I did get a new bike recently and the grips are wider than my last mountain bike, so it may be the extra strain on my hands causing issues.

Any help on where this pain is coming from?

    Thank you :)

  • Calling all green thumbs, help!?

I have a draceana marginata plant called Garth who is awesome and i need some help with him. Recently i found he is being being attacked by mealybugs (wooly aphids) so i ran to the net to find answers. I don't have time or money for expensive perticides so i mixed up some tabasco, hot sauce, dish wash and water according to tips from a website. I also removed his leaves that were badly infected by the little blighters and now he looks rather bare and sad. This morning i checked him and i saw a couple of dead bugs sitting on his leaves so i think it's working.

Have i done the right thing? and how do i prevent infestation in the future.

Note he is mostly and indoor plant and i put him outside on sunny days to get some extra light.

  • Christians can you help me with this?

I was reading the bible from the start and just got to the page where Cain was marked and sent on his way by the Lord, it said he got his wife but where did she come from? it seems it's only Adam and Eve at the time?

I'm confused and i'm sure there's an explanation.

P.s Atheists please don't come along and take this as an opportunity to be rude, it will only make me pray for you.

    Thanks :)

  • Christians, can you help me out here?

I plan on waiting until i am married to have sex due to my belief in God and abiding by his rules. A few of my friends are not Christian, one in particular has a very strong opinion that sex before marriage is a good idea because it helps you from a better bond with the one you love and you only have a full proper relationship with sex. She says that she values sex but so far has done so much to cheapen herself and it. Can anyone give me a really powerful quote or thought to share with her so she can at least see my point of view, i've been gentle in how i approach it and explain my reasons but nothing works.

    Thanks so much guys :)

  • anyone know what insect this is?

I was out and about in the bush and twice i stumbled upon a strange orange bug dragging away a dead spider, i would like to know what sort of bug it is. Unfortunately i do not have any details but its colour. It was not a centipede, mantis or beetle it was something else.

    Cheers:)

    P.s It wasn't chuck norris :p

  • Question for those who were brought up by parents who smacked?

I was smacked as a child. This never truly hurt me and was only ever dished out if i had done something terrible. I grew up with respect for my parents and elders and never for a second believe my parents did the wrong thing and i truly think i am a better adult because of their parenting. (note; smacking was an absolute last resort) Now days the law here in NZ thinks a smack is akin to abuse and i find this incredibly stupid, controlled smacking is not abuse. Good parents are being punished for being good parents. Agree or disagree, like to see the different opinions :)

    Thankyou.

  • want a pet rat but...?

I've had one before but she got a huge tumor and sadly i had to stop her suffering at get her put down. Anyway I'm a full time tertiary student now but want another rat, just one. But heres the thing i've been told you really should have two as rats are very social (although the last one seemed fine on her own) And i won't be home a lot but when I'm there i'd have it out with me for play time and attention.

Not a good idea? I'd hate to get one and not care for it properly.

    Thank you.

  • afraid I'll make a terrible partner/wife?

I'm still young and i get that we don't fully know ourselves or mature until mid twenties but I'm afraid i won't make a good spouse. Some describe me as eccentric or weird...somehow with age i don't see this improving any, i'm not creepy or anything just err very spontaneous. I do not want children at all and i don't and have never really liked the night life. I haven't had many boyfriends and the ones i did have a usually got a bit bored with (not in a mean way but they couldn't handle my exertion of energy?) I just seem to have great troubles getting someone who has enough in common but also different enough in the right way. Friends have described me as hectic or a mess (not emotionally though ha ha) I hope to get married but don't think i could behave how a wife is supposed to?

Honest comments please and no rudeness.

    Thanks :)

  • why is it ok for men but not woman?

If a woman sleeps around she is considered a slut but if a man does he is a player and it's more excepted. I understand that now days men get less respect if he sleeps around but that change is recent.....i'm curious.
