What is that rattling sound that comes from the back of my car?

Hello!

2007 Infiniti M35. There is a rattling sound that comes from the back when I'm driving on rough surfaces It sounds like a peace of hard plastic hitting something. It comes from the driver's side rear wheel. Visited dealership, they changed rear shock absorbers on both sides - it was helpful for some time. I visited them twice when the problem came back, they can't figure out. When I accelerate hard enough so the VDC (ABS) comes on, the sound may disappear for some time, then it comes back again. When I press on break pedal slightly while driving on the rough road - the sound do not disappear. Same with parking breaks: when I apply parking break a little and driving - the sound is still there.

What you can have is when they changed the rear shock and the problem went away, did they put new bolts in or use the old one, if a Shoulder Bolt that goes through the shock bushing is bad it will sound good for a while then go right back to causing noise.

I think you mean Brake Hard until the abs kicks in the sound may disappear, that can actually be the same issue possibly moving or jamming up the bolt.

Anyway first thing to check is if they used a the worn Shoulder Bolt when they changed the shock and the noise stopped.

Two things it might be; Muffler/Catalytic Converter Heat Shields or "Concentric Pistons for the Parking Brake.
