Why is my cat afraid of me when ever we're outside but not inside the house?

Whenever I try to approach my cat outside, he runs away from me like I'm going to freaking hurt him or something. But when me and my cat are inside of the house, he let's me pet him. My cat is an outside cat and has alot of cat friends. Do you think that my cat is too cool for me and doesn't want his cat friends to see him with a "human"??

Cats can be subjected to lots of peer pressure as young ones. If they are seen with humans its usually lame and he is ashamed of you. If he's seen with your type all the cats will talk and then he just going to be a loser getting flushed down the toilet and not having anyone to go to the prom with. Do you really want this to happen to your cat?

That's quite bizarre! The only thing I can think of is that the inside of your house seems like a stable environment where everything is predictable to your cat; however, as soon as your cat steps outside, everything becomes random so your cat becomes spooked- not even recognizing you because your cat cannot sense or smell you the same way as inside your house. The air is stable and confined in your house versus outside so your cat's senses become confused. Furthermore, there is probably a lot more activity going on outside your house (like birds flying around and other creatures crawling around) versus inside your house.

I think it's association or you. Association means he associates safety with the house inside and threats with the outside, so when you're outside, you are a possible threat in his mind. You means that when you're outside your physiology changes and you become less of a nice, mellow person and he senses that.
