How many calories should I be eating per day?

Usually I feel satisfied if I eat about 700-900 per day, but I heard about your body going into "starvation mode" if you eat under 1,200, which just helps store the extra fat in your body and I am trying to lose weight. It doesn't seem to make sense to eat more when on a diet, so what should I do?

Update:

the only exercise i get is moderate cardio for around 35 mins 6 times a week, only burning less than 150 cals each time

** So far I have lost 55 lbs. doing this in 3 years. Eat six mini meals a day. Exercise and before every meal, drink two tall glasses of water, (about 16 oz.) this will fill you up and you will automatically eat less. This really works, so be patient. Good Luck to you

Your body only goes into starvation mode after prolonged extreme undernourishment such as that experienced in areas of drought in some parts of the world.

Starvation mode does not happen just because you go on a sensible diet for a while.

Losing 1-3lb per week is a sensible target so if you are achieving this well done, you'll be fine.

You can consume how many ever you want.

Losing weight depends on How many calories you burn.

For losing 1 pound, you gotta burn 3500 !

you can consume 1200 daily, but exercise and burn 1900 calories! (ie 1200+700)

    Hope it helped! (:

eat more. you can,t knock the science that had gone into this question. there,s no way you can all of your required nutrients on 800 calories. 1200 per day; that,s if you never move.

Source(s): i read. i,m also a weight watchers member who had lost 12 lbs. in a month without any deprivation issues.
