Can I make a YouTube video with a star wars theme?

I'm not selling anything, I'm just making a fan video with my own characters and places. Can I do that?

    You could make it, but it may get taken down. It's not just lost revenue that worries copyright holders. The way and with who their work is associated could potentially affect the copyright owners appearance. Why not just ask the copyright owners for permission. There's so much star wars stuff out there that I wouldn't think they'd mind espcecially if you're doing a tribute type thing.
