Help with predicting reactions in Chemistry?
We did a lab for analysis cations. In the lab report, we are given two equations that we have to complete, balance, and tell which one "undergoes a reaction". I balanced them, but I don't know how to tell which is the correct reaction. Is it the complex ion that determines it?
Here's an example:
Co(OH)2(s) + NaOH(aq)=
Al(OH)3(s)+Na(OH)(aq)=
If you could help me with this one, I think I could figure the rest out. Thanks.

Co(OH)2(s) + 2NaOH(aq)= Na2Co(OH)4-------> Na2CoO2
Al(OH)3(s)+Na(OH)(aq)= NaAl(OH)4-------> NaAlO2
Second one is right. Not sure about first.

Not really understanding your question. If you want to know whether the "reaction" occurs or not in lab, just observe for changes in ph, smell, color, solubility, state, etc.
