Why do companies make us follow long-winded personality surveys for minimum wage jobs?

I don't understand. It is irritating, at the least, to have to fill out pages pages and pages of personality questions (such as: "Do you get irritated?" or "I have have never been late to work before."), and then never get called for an interview, nor more than an acknowledgement of survey completion. I recall having filled out 19 pages of surveys for one company--no call back!

Who is going to speak the truth and say they have been late, or that they get angry? If they do, are they rewarded with an interview? After all, these are not essay questions, where I am permitted to include the nature of a particular circumstance where I may have gotten angry.

It feels very Nazi like, and unfortunately, not as efficient. Why would I want to work for someone who has no respect for 100+ potential employees time?

In a bad economy, shouldn't companies be expected to respect their potential candidate's time?

Update:

BTW, when I say "very nazi like...not as efficient" I am referring to the system of corporate fascism, where corporations and elements in government are colluding against the people. I certainly don't think the Nazis were "good" at anything, except for the VW they built. Yes, I hate Nazis, hence the comparison. Sorry, for any confusion.

It's part of the corporate greed that's been going on for quite awhile now. With more and more people needing jobs, these large corporations implement a training and interview and hiring process that requires more management positions, than actual worker's, and tax write-offs. If more places were hiring, most people would not even go to these places and apply. The company probably got a tax write off for the time it took you to apply, especially if your unemployed. Unfortunately, this is what we are having to put up with until the economy turns around, and the government quits allowing such write offs to these corporations. It's one of the reason that people cannot go out to eat as much and the company loses business, so they get tax breaks from the government to make up for it, and make up these stupid hiring process applications/interviews/training programs, rather than hire people and help the economy so people will buy where they work. I call it corporate greed. This is what the President has been trying to change, and what the opposition keeps trying to stall him on. Because they won't hire more people, just create more tax write offs.

I completely agree with you. However I think there are a few stupid people that actually answer the truth when asked questions like "are you ever late to work or school?" and say yes or some of the time and the company is looking for "never". I actually had a friend who scored badly on the employee test at a company I worked for. I was trying to get her an interview to work with me but my boss said she didn't pass the test and her scores were so low that he was not allowed to interview her at all! I was horrified because she was in college at the time and I thought mature enough for the position. But apparently she is a moron when it comes to taking a personality and job performance questionaire! I was shocked that she scored poorly because I never would have thought this girl wouldn't do well with a simple, straight forward minimum wage type position.

So apparently the tests are working to weed a few people out that aren't reliable or who are too honest or lack common sense.

I agree with you 100%. I also hate how companies have you post your resume and then ask you to fill out the application with the same info from the resume. It's an employers market and it seems that they can do just about whatever they want to and it is so unfair.
