Indoor activities for a dog?

I would like to know some good activities to do with dogs indoors. I have an 8 month old female jack Russell and she is very active! When she gets too hyper after I've been gone at work, she will pick on my other dogs. I need an indoor activity for me to do with her to help drain her energy. I walk her at least once a day, play fetch with her all the time and she plays with my other dogs a lot too. I have been teaching her tricks lately so she knows how to be calm and listen to me but she prefers to run.. non stop. I don't have a treadmill but would like to get one eventually. What are some good ways to make her tired in the colder months when we can't get out for as many walks?

Did you knwo that training can tire your dog out mentally? So start training! Get a trick trainng bok and have fun learning tricks with your dog.

Another thing you can do is get interactive toys such as kongs, puzzle balls (treats in a ball - they have to chase it around to get the treats out). Or Nina Ottoson's interactive puzzle toys are also great, though they don't last long once your dog gets the hang of it.

You could make a flirt stick if you have enough space inside. http://notesfromadogwalker.com/2012/04/24/flirt-po...

Have all your dogs got places they can retreat to when they need space? If not, I would suggest crate training them with their own crates so that at least if she picks on the other dogs, they can retreat. She much be taught not to bother the other dogs if they are in her crate.

Another thing - you don't say how long you walk her for. At least once a day for at least an hour is the minimum. Or twice for two hours. More is better with a dog like yours that is obviously very active.

In the colder months, just get out there anyway. Get yourself warm clothes and wet weather gear. Going out in all weather is part of being a responsible dog owner.

Regardless of the weather all dogs need several long walks every day. Get yourself some wellies and waterproofs and take your dogs out before you leave them.

Although people need to work, dogs need people. Consequently you should organize company for all of your dogs in your absence. Treadmills are expensive, however dog walkers are not.

In addition to the morning walk, try to get home at lunchtime AND pay a dog walker to take up the slack.

Your JR will continue to pick on the other dogs if she is bored and lacks exercise.

Throwing a ball down a hallway and playing fetch or tug of war with a toy or rope always works to tire them out when your there. I would also look into toys that you can hide treats in. These are awesome for when you're not at home for keeping them occupied.
