I think my job has no potential...?

So I've been a kitchenhand for nearly a week, I'm getting faster and the chefs help me clean and stuff and everyone's really nice. I took the job because I need the money and got told at the interview there's potential for me to learn other positions. I don't want to be a kitchenhand forever, got my contract yesterday and asked them about progressing. They said if I show potential. So I'm going to hand it in today and ask if another postition arises can apply? And explain that I'm really keen to be wait staff or become a apprentice or something. I've still got a couple of jobs on hold and it's in my routine to apply for other jobs (was job hunting for 7months). So pretty much if I can not advance and learn another position, should I accept another job that can teach me more? Would it be bad quiting after only being there a couple of months? I don't want to stay there if I'm just gonna be a dishwasher forever

You can tell that whatever you want and ask whatever you want, but don't expect to move up to wait staff in a few months time. You need to really have experience under your belt and usually 8 weeks is too short a period of time. But, anything is possible and who knows. Tell them you would be happy to shadow a server so that if an emergency comes up and they need shift coverage, you are available.

I'm at a job like that too but it's better to have a crappy job than no job at all right? If you really dislike it there and see that they're not appreciating you and you're not getting anywhere still keep looking for jobs but don't tell them and also don't quit until you know for sure you're hired at another job that's better
