Five 1 1/2 mile tracks in the Chase. Which ones should be eliminated? What tracks in their place?

There are currently five 1 and 1/2 mile tracks in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. Which tracks (Chicago, Kansas, Charlotte, Texas and Homestead-Miami) would you remove from the Chase? What tracks would you put in their place and why?

Update:

What do you think of my alterations to the Chase? I'd switch dates for Chicago and Richmond. Richmond would begin the Chase. Kansas would be replaced by Road America. There should be a road course in the Chase and I'd like to see a "new" road course on NASCAR's schedule. Kansas doesn't deserve a 2nd race. Let's face it--the only reason the track got a second date was due to the casino. And lastly, I'd switch Homestead-Miami for Daytona. I'd like to see the schedule begin and end at the same track. The last race should be a night race. And, being a restrictor plate race, anything could happen to change the championship. I wouldn't touch the rest of the Chase, except I might have Charlotte and Talladega swap dates.

Update 2:

I might also take Phoenix and swap it with Bristol..

I think the whole Chase should be ripped to shreds and tossed out like yesterdays news but to answer your question Chicago and Texas out. I hate road courses but if this is supposed to be a "playoff" Then each type of track they race on should be represented. Super speedway, 1 mile , 1 1/2, road course, so on etc, heck even a Dirt track would be cool. I would even bring back Darlinton or the rock. Burton Smith dug up a perfectly fine race track 3 times maybe he could find it in his heart to redue the rock into a modern facility. Ohhhh that's right greedy corporate mongrels don't have hearts.

  • I already mentioned such a thing. What we have now in the Chase are the following:

    One short track race [Martinsville]

Three one-mile oval races [Dover, Phoenix, New Hampshire]

Five 1.5 mile oval races [Chicagoland, Kansas, Charlotte, Texas, Homestead]

    One restrictor plate race [Talladega]

Makes ten races, makes the Chase. BUT drivers whose strength are in the 1.5 mile ovals (e.g. Jimmie Johnson) extremely are in favour. You need a more balanced schedule. So my idea would be:

    TWO short track races

At least ONE 1 mile oval race

Not more than THREE 1.5 mile oval (includes 1.54mi oval atlanta) races

    ONE 2 mile oval

    ONE unique circuit like Pocono

    ONE restrictor plate race

    ONE road course race

NASCAR needs to bat an eye on that because it's important for the sport in my view. Every driver needs to be treated equally but when you have five 1.5 mile ovals and no superspeedway where you actually need more talent than just bump drafting and escaping crashes, I don't see any equality.

Back to your question: I would take away Kansas and both D-shaped ovals, along with Dover or Phoenix and replace them with Bristol, Michigan, Pocono and Road America.

Charlotte and Texas are so similar one of them needs to go. Kansas could probably stand to go as well. Chicago isn't so bad because the backstretch is different than most tracks, and despite being 1.5 miles, Miami is not at all a "cookie-cutter" track. Get rid of at least one of the other two though. Move one of the road course races to that date.

Or just get rid of the Chase, but I think it's safe to say that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Replace kansas with a road course like road America. Kansas is in my opinion a really boring track.

It doesn't matter what the tracks are the competition is still the same for the drivers.

But if you want to get rid of one, ditch Homestead for Darlington,

and figure out another track to end the season with.

    Maybe Texas,

because it could be snowing @ Chicagoland or even Kansas by then : )

I would add Sonoma-the long 2.52 mile track, not the neutered version NASCAR races on; man up folks!

    Road America.

    Iowa.

Out-Kansas and Homestead. Of course, this isn't likely to happen as NASCAR/ISC owns Chicago, Kansas, and Homestead.

  • Pick any two and replace them with Road America and Laguna Seca. Although LS would be a wreckfest it sure would be interesting to watch.
