Anonymousgearhead is wrong both the lamborghini aventador and ferrari f12 make more power and are still N/A. I think the most powerful N/A engine is the one in the Ferrari LaFerrari. Though it's a hybrid, the gas engine alone makes 730hp on its own and over 940 with the hybrid system turned on.

As for fastest, a formula 1 car would be it. The Ferrari F2004 was the fastest ever N/A car of all time. More recently speeds in f1 have gone down due to more restrictions on downforce and fuel economy. This year's cars will be turbocharged with more fuel and downforce restrictions.

Well then, why do foreign cars have ridiculously small engines? As far as efficiency usually a larger engine is more efficient. Look at those very large container ships engines. They approach 50% efficiency! Diesel is starting to become more mainstream here now. The general public is starting to learn that diesel is cheaper to refine, provides better fuel efficiency and more power. In the US, diesel engines got a bad reputation because GM introduced a 350 ci diesel that was basically converted from a gas (petrol) engine. They were horribly unreliable and lacked the power that Americans were used to because the engine was naturally aspirated. This whole thing left the impression that diesels were slow. For huge weights though diesel is king and this country runs on it. All tractor trailers are diesel. Using gasoline would be terrible in that respect. Personally I love diesel, it beats a gasoline engine in nearly every aspect. I have a Dodge Ram with a Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. I have done a few modifications and use a programmer called the Smarty. Right now I run it on the mileage tune which also provides a little more horsepower. With this program I should be making around 365hp and 690ftlb but I get over 20 mpg hand calculated. If I want to I can change the power level and get to upwards of 500hp and 1000ftlb (or more). I have some friends who have similar vehicles and they love the power and mileage you get with diesel. A few other friends of mine have VW Jetta's and Beetles with VW's great diesel engine. They get around 50mpg and make plenty of power. These little cars are no slouches. As far as I know right now in the US the only diesels available are in each of the big 3's heavy duty trucks. Dodge has the Cummins, GM has the Duramax and Ford the Powerstroke. VW has thier diesel in the Jetta and Beetle. Chrysler also has the Grand Cherokee and recently dropped the diesel option for the Liberty. There are other diesels coming in the near future though. I know GM and Dodge will have small V6 and V8 diesels in their half ton trucks. There will hopefully be other diesels in cars as well.
