Has anyone had electrical issues with both cold-starting and jumping a 2002 S10?

I understand that it is hard to turn large crankshafts and that batteries are not at there best when it is cold outside.

I have a CCA that is supposed to be 700.

It starts fine after running/charging for a period of time. The longer the wait in between starts the harder it is to start.

When the battery was drained as much as it could be, jumping resulted in starting the vehicle but it kept shutting off if I didn't push the accelerator.

If the battery is never drained, this issue does not occur and has not in any other circumstance than having a drained battery.

It runs fine. 13MPG is not really "fine" but up to specs. No hesitations, smooth and nothing mechanical seems to be at fault. The headlights dim (normal, I presume) when starting. Turning off all electronics seems to lower the number of attempts needed to start it. All the dashboard lights dim when starting it.

I don't know how old the battery is only that it is aftermarket and looks at least five years old (owned 1.5 years).

Does it sound like the battery is not holding its charge?

I appreciate some advice.

Battery most likely fading away. check connections to chassis, starter, and engine ground strap. Got a multimeter? Now a good time to use one. Look for a voltage drop between starter and battery, engine and firewall, chassis and battery. Look at the resting voltage of the battery. 12.6 or higher? after it sat all night is it still 12.6 volts or higher? If it is 12.5 volts or lower, battery is weak.

Not sure you will care, but if you can find a battery shop that replaces or sells battery acid, you could recondition the battery. Harbor Freight Tools sells a battery treatment which is a Cadmium methyl-silicate solution. You dump out the old acid, fill and drain it twice with distilled water, then fill it with new acid and add some of the VCX solution, which will eat the oxide buildup off the plates and keep it dissolved while you do a slow charge. You can drain and refill it again or leave it in there, either way, you should see a nice fat 12.7 volts or better after you give it that first 24 hour slow charge. I kept batteries going for 12-14 years with that trick, and one bottle of the VCX lasted me through 11 cars and about 15 years. No clue what it costs these days, I bought the last bottle 10 years ago.

Either the battery is not holding a charge, or there is something on the truck that uses too much power when the key is off. You can connect a test light to the battery and pull fuses until it goes out (with the key off of course) to find what it is. Of course somethings like the radio preset memory and digital clock will always use some power, but it should never be enough to drain the battery.

Sounds like a weak battery. I would test and replace the battery (if necessary). Also if you decide to jump the car, make sure you use good jumper cables, and not those cheap 10$ cables. They're not made to transfer enough current to jump start a car in cold temperatures.

check the starter could be wore bushings and draining the battery the cold only amplifies the problem, could be battery maybe a new heavy duty with more cold cranking amps is needed, my guess is starter when all else has failed

I don't know the answer to your question, but you suck . You were quite rude on answering my question. We need less quick witted smart asses in this world and more intellectual , understanding, and kind people .
