Should I buy a new or used car?
My car right now is about to die :/ It has served me well, but now i need to move on to something new. I am looking at a $20k brand new car, and a $15k used car. The used would only be 2-4 years old with 50k - 70k miles on it.
I know the approximate cost of the payments for each and the increase of my insurance premium.
The big argument that everyone is going to have is that the depreciation of the car drops a butt load once you drive the new off the lot. The next car I get is going to be driven until it cant run anymore. So if thats 200k miles then I would get more use out of the new one than the old one.
What are the positives and negatives of both, and is one the better choice than the other?

If you're planning on running it until it dies, a new car would be fine. The only time it really makes a difference is if you buy a car and plan on selling it in a few years. Obviously the big plus to buying the used car is it will be cheaper. Both insurance and payments will be lower with an older car.
A newer car will come with all of the warranties and possibly even manufacturer incentives. Example, a year or so ago, my friend bought a brand new car. Because of the incentives, he actually got it for less than the exact same make and model that was two years old. (2014 car for less than exact same 2012 model)

For only a $5000 difference you might as well buy the new one. It's better to own a new base model than a used(in your case) higher end model. You will save more in the long run too(5+ years). You start with a clean platform, no damage, no abuse, brand new. If you take good care of it you will see a lot of miles. Also 50,000 miles is a lot and if the previous owner didn't treat it right, damage has already been done.

a 4 yr old car should have more than 40-50,000 miles on it and most cars anymore should easily last 200-250k miles
