Seeking opinions on whether or not to keep a car?
Alright, folks. Hoping to pick your brains. I have a 2004 Chrysler 300m that I bought a couple years ago for $300. Has some overheating issues, and has sat for a while. Engine and transmission drive great, but they are higher mileage, at 180k. I've been replacing parts on it recently with the hopes of getting it back on the road, and have found the body to be in great shape despite its age.
Given the high mileage and history of overheating issues, would you keep the car or get rid of it? My only concern is something being damaged from the heat, like the crankshaft bearings, and needing to bleed money to replace them.
Just hoping to get some personal opinions here. Thanks!

Junk it. It will become a big money pit in a hurry.

The odds are against this car being a fine running vehicle that will serve you well for many years. Quit while you're ahead.

I'd dump it. It's a 14 year old Chrysler that's been overheated. The odds of a very expensive failure in the near future is about 95%

Get rid of it. Overheating can lead to engine damage, which would cost about $4,000 to replace with a rebuilt engine.

You could fit an aftermarket electric radiator fan to improve cooling. Fit it in addition the the existing fan if possible. Flush and clean the cooling system with chemical too.

It's junk, it needs new head gaskets and you only paid $300 for it. Scrap it for the metal recycle value.
With new head gaskets and shop service on the heads, you are looking at about $3,500K+ in repairs.
The only way to keep any value is to get a low millage used engine core and swap the entire engine out.
FYI, a new re-manufactured 3.5 liter V6 full block with heads is in the $3,200+ range, I would scrap it out.
*After your comment, you should have paid the machine shop to resurface the used heads, big mistake!
If you decide to redue this, get the heads resurfaced and use new gaskets again. Once the TTY bolts are used, they need to be replaced with the head gasket! Read my post on the Toyota 1.5 head bolts! You did a sloppy job, clean up the head and deck mating surfaces with acetone so the metal is completely clean before mating the gasket together. I can already tell that you went cheap and reused the TTY head bolts, another big mistake.
