car start problems?
I have a 2013 Honda Accord. For sometime and reason, whenever i push the ignition button, all i hear is just a click from the hood. The dashboard does turn on. But sometimes i have to push and push the ignition button over and over again, but all i hear is just a click from the hood. I keep on pushing the button until the engine does turn on. What does this mean? My dad says its because the battery on my key is dying, but i dont know. Plus, what does it mean when the engine light turns on?

You probably need a new starter. The solenoid contacts are carboned up.

Sounds like you need to replace the battery under your hood. My 2014 did the same thing back in March. Word of advise: Price around and don't exclude the Honda dealership. It was actually cheaper for me to buy mine through the local Honda dealership, than to buy it at Autozone, Kragen, PepBoys, or any other auto parts store. Just so you know, I didn't buy my car at that dealership.

Test the battery voltage with a very cheap multimeter. I expect you will find it is below 12.6 volts. New battery needed. Fully charged automotive batteries should measure at 12.6 volts or above. When the engine is running, this measurement should be 13.7 to 14.7 volts. See link for UK meter as example.

It's normal for the engine lights to be on when the car isn't running. Either the battery is weak and needs replacing or the battery cable connections and terminals may be corroded and probably need cleaning. Corrosion inhibits the flow of electricity from the battery. Either way, there's just enough to operate the dash lights and cause the starter solenoid to engage [the click you hear] but not enough to turn the starter.

That's the classic sign there aren't enough amps in the battery to activate the starter. Charge or replace the battery. The lights will turn on because they don't draw the same amperage as the starter.
