A loud banging noise coming from water system.?

A loud banging noise comes from our home water system every time a faucet is turned on or when a toilet is flushed and sometimes it just does it on it's own ever hour or so..  The pressure reducing valve is set at 60 psi.  We have no idea if it's water hammer or what it is, but it drives us crazy.  This started a month ago.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes, you just get a hammer suppressor fitted to one of your pipes. They are things that look a bit like a desk bell, ask a plumber.

    public water or well, multiple different reasons for each. As the other stated, it is either a pipe that is knocking around, water hammer, or that pressure reducer is no longer functioning.

    Sounds like water hammer. Put an air chamber somewhere n the system

    Maybe a clamp anchoring the pipe has come loose.

    It's water hammer. Install an arrestor. Try to find out where the noise source is. If that doesn't cure it there maybe a loose washer in a faucet.
