2  indigenous languages Irish Gaelic [do not confuse with Scots Gaelic spoken in just a few parts of Scotland, mainly in the Highlands and Islands] and English. The former is the official language, but the latter is the most spoken. Immigrants and their descended may still speak their own language, among themselves, but will need to learn Irish or English in order to communicate with the Irish.

Effectively everyone who lives in Dublin speaks English, though some with a really strong accent that can be hard to understand. A significant percentage of the population also speaks "Irish", but mostly as a second language.
