prescribed ect for no reason?

hello, i had a doctor and he prescribed me ect for no reason? first he said he would do rtms? then he scheduled me for shock therapy? what kind of doctor do this?

    It's my understanding that ect (electroconvulsive therapy) is more of a last resort to those not responding to other conventional methods of mental health treatment.

    The other respondent made a good point about *not* having to go to the appointment.  

    I believe that a board-certified psychiatrist (M.D. or D.O.) would usually be the type of doctor to prescribe ect.  

    If this doctor is using ect as a first type of treatment for mental illness, then please consider talking with a board-certified psychiatrist from another medical practice and consider notifying the "state" medical board too.

    You need to have a deep discussion with the doc, and BTW, you dont have to go.
