Does singing run in your family?

No, but there was a love of music in my family. I suppose that's why I'm blessed with the talent for singing and playing music.

Not singing, specifically, though my mother was a good singer. But musical ability and a love of music certainly does, on my mother's side. My father, and my siblings on his side-- not so much! They are much stronger with visual arts, so they aren't completely talentless! (I have half siblings on both sides of my tree, and I was adopted, and have 3 siblings in that adoptive family, none of whom are great with music other than my oldest brother who's decent with a guitar and enjoys playing for fun).

My mother liked to sing and she had a lovely voice, but her first love and her first talents were on the piano and violin. She was so talented on the piano that she played for a while with a local symphony, until her health declined. She passed away at only 57 years old. My aunt plays the flute. My grandmother played the organ. My grandfather had a strong and vibrant bass voice, but was well suited for harmony rather than being the melody or lead singer. My sister plays piano and guitar, and my nephew (her now 12 year old son) is picking up the guitar. He's just beginning, but he seems to have a knack for it, and I anticipate that he'll be very good at it in time if he sticks with it. My niece (sister's 11 year old daughter) is very shy and doesn't like to sing out loud very much, but she has a pretty voice. She could sing quite nicely if she finds the confidence to open up! Her twin brother hasn't really explored music all that much. It's not really something that he's developed an interest in pursuing but I can tell that he's got rhythm. Our brother also has a great sense of rhythm, not really pitch, and he's the percussionist of the bunch. My uncle (mom's brother) played the trumpet. Music APPRECIATION was a big part of family life in my adoptive family. A-dad was a bass-baritone with a lot of enthusiasm. A-mom enjoyed listening to music and on the rare times that she would sing, she had a pleasing alto voice. She also played piano when she was young, though we didn't have one when I was growing up. But she encouraged me to sing in choruses and choirs, but wasn't so supportive when I thought about studying music. I had thought about maybe being a music teacher, but she actually discouraged me from it, and as I developed more skill and technique through voice lessons and singing in more advanced settings, she almost got hostile about it. Not sure what that was about, but it was enough to turn me away from that idea pretty early. But, I kept on singing at church and with community groups from an early age, and we enjoyed attending concerts and musical performances. Listening was okay, I guess... but actually getting good at making music was not well received. It was impractical or something. Okay as a hobby, but not as a career, even as a teacher or as a music therapist which was something else I had considered. I realized that my chances of making a comfortable living as a performer were slim, but also I knew that performing wasn't the only way to make a living through music! I was discouraged even from that approach.I am the singer now in my family of origin, and I play a little bit of guitar. I'm now a cantor at our church, and before COVID shut us down, I sang in the choir. I'm a soprano and often sing the descants with hymns and psalms, and take some solos from time to time. I love to sing at home when I'm by myself, and I sing for hours every day, whether it's a home rehearsal or just singing along with a song on YouTube for the fun of it.So while we weren't a big "singing" group, music was and is still definitely a family thing.

My family is musical.  We sing and play musical instruments.
