Is it a bad time to travel overseas?

You probably won't be able to travel, flights will be suspended. Don't travel until this pandemic has passed. 

It’s not only difficult atm.  It’s mostly illegal, except under special circumstances.

Firstly, you can’t travel (except to New Zealand, which will restart in early 2021) and secondly, America has the highest number of covid cases in the world. Also I strongly suggest cancelling travel to regional NSW or other states if you live in Sydney. Sydneysiders are locked out of almost every state/territory and the Central Coast is also a hotspot nationwide except in Tasmania. Wollongong and the Blue Mountains are locked out of Queensland, Norfolk Island, Christmas Island and the Cocos-Keeling Islands. Other areas of NSW are only locked out of Western Australia. Kiwis can still come Down Under. This is due to the Northern Beaches COVID-19 outbreak, following a new strain of coronavirus, formed from both the Australian virus strain and the strain of covid in the States. Their outbreak of the virus is unbelievably terrible. The UK, mainland Europe and South Africa also have new strains. The United Kingdom became the first country to get a vaccine, from a German company named Pfizer. The Pfizer vaccine is being rolled out currently in the UK, the European Union and in America. Canada is finalising its approval of the jab. 

You may get in there if you can get the visa and the flight and may have to quarantine there for a couple weeks.  Then you risk lockdowns and many closed businesses and tourist sites.  Then when you are ready to return you will have to quarantine in a Sydney hotel for another 2 weeks and remember all the quarantining is at your expense.  Perhaps leave it until next year.

For so many obvious reasons; yes, now is no time for any but essential travel. 

At this time you can not even leave Sydney.  It is close to total lock down.

Traveling overseas is a very bad idea.

I would say so. Being stuck on a germ-filled flying tube for hours on end sounds like a high chance of becoming a superspreader event. I doubt you have the option without being subject to quarantine restrictions. There are countries with low death tolls that it would be tempting to hid out in (and that is not California) but the figures probably don't take account of the fact that they don't have much of an aged population since they all die relatively early anyway.

too late now you are trapped in as a virus carrier enjoy the experiment and general lack of civil rights if you have a passport and they will let you in, go . Be prepaid to go there not be allowed in ,sent to quarantine after that before your allowed home if you want to go have the money and can why not? Most probably would.

Don't cry if you get trapped overseas if any of these things bother you its probably a bad time to go.

If you had asked if it would be a bad idea to travel overseas now, I would have responded yes because of the Covid crisis. Hence you answered your own question.

Stay in Australia where we have relatively few cases and your risk of contagion is so very low. The viral propagation is still high risk across much of America, so it's not an advisable place to visit. Remember, the money you spend in Australia stays in Australia. 

Spend it overseas and it might wend it's way back, but probably not. More money in Australia ensures additional investment and higher chance of improved employment for our own country. 

We also receive better hospitals, roadways and even more funding available for research of all sorts of conditions / illnesses.
