the thing is, its not like sharks on the prowl for kayak fishermen at all, in few cases some blood thirsty sharks will hunt down what ever including a kayaker for sure, so just like fisherman blue Gabe on youtube said, you better have the Lord on your side at the sea, because luck dont exist out there! what that means is, to acknowledge you are playing with a dangerous ocean that takes many lives a year without blaming nature for a bad outcome brotha

Since great whites sometimes attack surfboards, I don't see why they wouldn't attack a kayak the same way.

It is said, any time in saltwater there IS a Shark within 100 yards of you. For the most part humans survive. If you notice most any photo underwater in saltwater you WILL see a Shark photobombing in the background.

It can depend on where and what time of day when it may not be smart to kayak in Shark territory. So in fact if you Kayak, YOU ARE in Sharky waters.

We have an area known worldwide for Trophy Tarpon Fishing. The area is the mouth of a pass, has very strong currents. When the Tarpon are present in large numbers Bull Sharks make it dangerous. Imagine these people have a 150 pound Tarpon on the line, they have to rush it to the boat before a Bull Shark bites 1/2 that fish off and eats it. A Bull Shark can be stupid, much like a cross bred Bovine Bull. I have seen and it IS common a Bull Shark bites the side of a boat. When balancing on a Kayak, you could easily end up in the water. REMEMBER also a Shark can "smell" one single drop of blood in the water over very long distances.

    * Once I witnessed an elderly couple two kayaks paddle out that Pass I described. May have felt brave since there where hundreds of fishing boats stacked in the mouth of that pass. They were Tarpon fishing which means those Bull Sharks were thick in the pass also feeding like at a banquet. From the shore I yelled at them to get out of the water, hurry up ! They had no idea. A Bull Shark is often over 300 pounds, can easily thrash a Kayak. However, one can NOT forget in that same pass about once a year someone catches a 12 - 14 FOOT 1200 pound Hammerhead. They put them on a boat trailer to haul them away.

So I suggest ..... you make your own determination if this is safe. We all have a different level of bravery : )

Myself I think I would rather be in the water Scuba Diving than on top. I want to see danger rather then being taken like a bait fish.

** A VERY good means to determine if a Shark is nearby. Marine Scientists HAVE said this method certainly has merit.

"The way to determine if a Shark is nearby, all you need is a simple tablespoon from your kitchen. Just wade out to that foamy stuff in the water dip your spoon in and taste the water. If it tastes salty .... there IS a Shark nearby".SEE ?
