what does real country music sound like?

i read where someone  said the (dixie) chicks were just pop with a banjo and to me personally nothing seems more country to me than a banjo. im not saying them specifically are the only thing country music is all about but it got me thinking wondering and asking, what is real country music nowadays? like what about it isnt country enough? i dont listen to much modern music of any genre so i dont know, thats why im asking this question. is it the lyrics, the instrumentation or what?

is it just a old folks nostalgic "back in my day" thing or what?

thanks

Mainly anything 2010 and down. But there is plenty of good new songs it’s just fewer and farther in between. I used to really like Tim McGraw his wife Faith his as well as Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood was okay she was a little before my time but she’s alright. But after they went full libtard I lost respect. None the less is still listen to their music

The best way to describe it, after you've listened to it across the years, is once you know what is, and what isn't Country music, and the difference between that and Pop music.

Listen to Johnny Cash then turn on any modern country station today. The major differences I can discern are 1) no phony twang with Johnny Cash vs. a phony twang, and 2) Meaningful lyrics with Johnny Cash vs. nonsense lyrics about drinking beer, wanting to bang the farmer's daughter, etc.
