Can anyone familiar with food in Italy, say what is the main difference or differences between Italian tomato soup and Italian tomato sauce?

soup would obviously be more watery and not have the thicker consistency of sauce.

Depends on who is making it.
If I'm making it the soup will have a little less seasoning than the sauce and will have a bit of dairy in it.
