Can you have Herpes Type 2 and never had sex?

Hi recently I had a STD blood test just to have one and was told I was positive for Herpes Type 2. The thing is I have never been in a relationship and never had intercourse. I was molested when I was younger a few times by a teen and by children with similar ages to mine at the time 8-10. I have never had actual intercourse or oral sex. I have not been kissed in the mouth since I was that age. I am 25 now and though I have put this behind me in life, I cannot help but wonder how did I acquire HSV2? I have never had any flare ups in the genital area or on my body. I am just a bit freaked out by this. Even though I have the medical knowledge about this, it still doesn't add up. I am going to be retested in a few months. Does anyone know why this is or have any life experience on this?

Can you have sex with someone with herpes and not get it?

Can Genital Herpes Be Prevented? The only way to prevent genital herpes and other STDs is abstinence. This means not having sex (oral, vaginal, or anal). If someone decides to have sex, using a latex condom every time can prevent most STDs.

HSV2 can pass from mother to child during a vaginal birth if the mother has an active outbreak at the time of delivery.

  • It's possible but unlikely. Also just kissing on the mouth isn't likely to give you HSV2.

You could have been born with it if your mother had a break out, while giving birth to you. But this is unlikely to happen. There are treatments that help prevent a break out before giving birth. Even if you did contract it at birth, HSV2 causes complications to your health.

You could have gotten it when you were molested. It could have stayed dormant or a symptomatic after you contracted it.

Viruses are typically forever in your body, so when you may have been exposed is irrelevant and sexually transmitted disease are never exclusively contracted by sexual acts.

You could have gotten it from sharing a drink,  but you most likely got it when you were molested.   Kids who molester other kids are typically getting molested elsewhere,  which is the likely source.

The blood test for this is problematic and is not the best diagnostic modality. It looks for antibodies NOT the actual virus. So it doesn’t exactly translate into actual infection that is symptomatic. It’s a bit complicated, but my advice is to not try and make sense or try to figure it out.
