I went for lunch at a Protestant church on March 17th 2021 wearing an orange hoodie. They wished me a happy Saint Patrick's Day and asked me why I was wearing orange, not green. I was confused!

Yes.  Michelle Obama and his husband celebrate Saint Patrick's Day every year

It is a saint's day.  Being Christian is all you really need, but even that is not critical.

Saint Patrick's Day, while not a legal holiday in the United States, is nonetheless widely recognised and observed throughout the country as a celebration of Irish and Irish-American culture.

Of course, but people in Ireland don't do outlandish things like drink green beer and eat corned beef and cabbage.
