I have terrible acid reflux and wake up choking every night but doctor won't prescribe me medicine?

I need omeprazole but my doctor refuses to prescribe me anymore. Are there over the counter drugs I can take so I don't wake up choking all the time?

You can speak to your doctor and ask why he refuses to prescribe you the meds, then you can speak to your insurance about your doctor, tell them he refuses to prescribe you this medication even though you have this condition, be firm with them that if they will not switch your doctor then you will be more than happy to get new insurance, and if you need to, you will seek legal advice for malpractice refusal of care. or something like that and they will get you a new MD.

in the mean time speak to a pharmacist, you can get omeprazole over the counter not high amounts, but I am sure if you ask they can give you directions on how to take it with the highest amount available over the counter., I am sure if you take 1 tablet in the morning  then afternoon and then at bedime you should be fine but talk to them, they know more than I do,

Don't eat within four hours of going to bed and avoid certain foods that you know will trigger it. That's what I do.

Prilosec is omeprazole, just in over the counter strength. You can buy it at any pharmacy, without a prescription.

You need to be evaluated for ulcers and other stomach problems. This kind of severe heartburn/indigestion isn't NORMAL. If your current doctor won't cooperate, you need to change providers and find one who will. Don't wait. Untreated acid reflux can be very serious.

    I'm confused

    "I need omeprazole"

"Are there over the counter drugs"

    YES

    Omeprazole

Don't eat anything for at least 4 hours before bed.  If you can stop it from happening you don't need drugs.

You don't say where you live but omeprazole is an over the counter medication here in the UK. I don't find it works for me at all but a fortnight course of esomeprazole, which is also availble otc, stops my reflux for months at a time.

Omeprazole (Prilosec) is sold over the counter, you don't need a prescription. I have acid reflux and would never take an acid blocker like Prilosec, too many side effects, I take Pepcid, an acid reducer.
