My son just turned two and he's barely talking.. is this normal?

My son turned two a few days ago and is still barely talking. He says "mama" and "doggie" and very simple words like that, but he's still not talking like he should be.. He recently learned the word "bye" but that's basically all he says when he talks.. Is this normal?

My son says words, not sentences...we talk to him like normal.  We don’t dumb things down for him.  He knows words that are important to him.  Cookie.  Thirsty.  Mommy.  Daddy.  Bye.  Hi.  But he says word and then things that make no sense and then another word.

Not the place for this question, stay off the net searching for this answer, kids progress at their own rates and if you have concerns. See the kids doc, discus it with them, makes a plan. Plenty of cases where kids do not speak or speak very little at 4 and 5. Then they start and they never shut up.  Others, places like this, will give you reasons to freak out about it. See the kids doc.

Depends. How much effort are you putting into teaching him to talk?
