Blood test information?

Hi, I have been unwell and recently went to hospital for some tests due to a fainting spell.

They did a CBC (complete blood test) and a thyroid test.

If there were any serious illnesses (cancers, autoimmune diseases, HIV etc) would something abnormal have come up on the blood test? Or do they need to be specific tests? I know they would normally have their own test but would they also affect the levels in the CBC?

An FBC (Full blood count) may indicate cancer, but it's not really designed for that. It's just looking into whether your red, white and platelet levels are okay. Some cancers may send this askew, but so could so many other things. The same goes with a thyroid function test. Typically that's just investigating how well your thyroid is functioning. Women in particular can have problems with their thyroid.

Basically these screens aren't looking for cancer but very specific ones may show up. But if your doctor suspected anything like that, you would be having the necessary tests.

I wouldn't worry, these tests are routine. They're just checking your health, given that you have fainted. It's not likely to be cancer.
