1JN 5:7 Why do people still use it ?

Is anyone else getting tired of seeing 1JN 5:7 repeatedly used to support the Trinity? It was found to be false and stopped appearing in translations about 1867 and appears in no good modern Bible.

It is the only verse that, by itself, states the Trinity, and it's gone.

Do people know it's false, and use it anyways, hoping no one else knows?

Update:

I meant the Trinitarian formula of KJ in 1JN 5:7. My Q should have been worded better.

Update 2:

It is the only verse that mentions the 3, AND says they are ONE. No other verse does this. The others only mention the 3 - like Tom, Dick & Harry. It doesn't imply they are one.

Update 3:

GOT_AIR - How could you possibly get the Trinity out of this single verse - Isa 9:6? Isn't that a stretch?

Update 4:

ADDED - got_air wrote "This text makes it clear that Chirst is one with Jehovah. "

Even the most anti-Trinitarians of all, the JWs, would agree Jesus is one with Jehovah, but as Father/Son - not as a Trinity.

Maybe the Trinity is clear to you here, but not to me. Sorry.

Update 5:

ADDED - I am not wrong about JW doctrines. I know them all.

Update 6:

ADDED - LineDancer, Thanks, but how can anyone be "misinformed" about a Biblical fact that is such common knowledge that one MUST know it? I'm not buying that one. I believe they want to support the Catholic Trinity which has no support elsewhere.

They are misinformed. According to A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture, this “is lacking in all Greek MSS except very late ones; in all ancient versions except the Latin; in about fifty Vulgate MSS, including the best, likewise in the majority of Greek and Latin Fathers. . . . It is now generally held that this passage, called the Comma Johanneum, is a gloss that crept into the text of the Old Latin and Vulgate at an early date, but found its way into the Greek text only in the 15th and 16th centuries.”

Even if the phrase “In heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one" was legit, it does NOT say that the Father, Son, and the holy spirit are co-equal, co-eternal, and that they make up one God. It merely says they are "one." So how can this verse be used to give evidence of the trinity?

At 1 Corinthians 3:6, 8, Paul says: "I planted, Apollos watered . . . He that plants and he that waters are one." Paul did not mean that he and Apollos were two persons in one; he meant that they were unified in purpose. The Greek word that Paul used here for "one" (hen) is neuter, literally "one (thing)," indicating oneness in cooperation. It is the same word that Jesus used at John 10:30 to describe his relationship with his Father. It is also the same word that Jesus used at John 17:21, 22. So when he used the word "one" (hen) in these cases, he was talking about unity of thought and purpose.

Rather than say God is a trinity, Jesus said at John 17:3 that his Father is the ONLY true God.

You assume that Christians actually know anything about the Bible. They mostly use it like a Magic Eightball, even a Quija board, but they have no idea that 1 John 5:7 was a copyist's margin note that was mistaken for text, or that Mark 16:9ff is not in the oldest manuscripts. Or that the story of the woman taken in adultery was added to John sometime in the 4th century, and they won't believe it when they are told because the backwoods Bible college pastorsthey listen to have them convinced that the whole world has conspired to hide the fact that God rode down in a magic chariot and dropped off the complete King James Bible.

This is the Amplified version which i use most of the time:

So there are three witnesses in heaven, the Father, The Word (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit....

verse 8: And there are three witnesses on earth, the Spirit, the Water, and the blood - and these three agree ( are in unison, their *testimony* coincides)

Wayne if i can say, the revelation comes from the Holy Spirit Himself - it's not something we learn it's something we catch as God reveals, Ask Him and see what happens.

    blessings : )

    OK, how about this one...

    Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

edit: Most who do not believe in the concept of the trinity also do not believe that Christ is one with Jehovah. This text makes it clear that Christ is one with Jehovah. That was the point of posting it.

edit: you are wrong about JW's and you need not rewrite what I have written. I have no intention of deleting my answer.

it's only one brief passage that mentions all three members of the trinity in it. There are many others, so I'm not sure what your question is.

    Isaiah 9:6

    Matthew 3:16, 17

...to cite a couple off the top of my head.

Don't get hung up on the word man. We just use it to describe something there. Kinda like if we didn't have a word for milk we would have to create one so i could have a glass of milk.

Want another way to look at it. G-d has a body a mind and a soul that can operate independently of each other with the same power and authority.

I was actually baptized by immersion in the name of each. Was my pastor trying to drown me???

does your bible have the book of Matthew?

does it go all the way up to chapter 28?

    does chapter 28 have a verse 19?

    Matthew 28:19

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

or does that verse just mean we were suppose to baptized three times each?

    Peace

Are you calling God a liar? God can't lie. (Titus 1:2)

You are the liar! Stop, drop, and roll will not work in hell.

It's not false. That is how God described himself to us. God holds His Word above His own Name! That's Credibility!

For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. Ps. 138:2

Then God said, “Let US make man in OUR image, according to OUR likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Gen. 1:26

Come, let US go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” Gen. 11:7

Who is the "US" and "OUR" in the verses above. You find the answer in 1 Jn. 5:7.

    Your Biblically illiterate.

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Cor. 2:14

Shovel your ignorance into my haul truck.

    My Bible still has it.

7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
